First Mix - Rock/Rap

Hey all,

Here is a tune I just got done mixing. It's not my band, but a friends band who I did this for. (Third Union) It's my first "real" mix, so I'll love feedback. For years I've done radio imaging and spot prod, so this is my first real stab at mixing a full song other than the bullcrap I tried to record years ago. lol

All things considered, I think it turned out pretty good. Although non-biased ears are what I'm looking for.

Third Union - It Doesn't Take Much

Cheers!

It has been well over a year since I've posted here...I cannot even remember my usernames.

I didn't plan on posting any music but got caught up listening. Basically, there is definitely some good stuff happening on here...wow.

Anyway, one of the songs for my band Cruelty Free was recorded by me and a friend on a 002. We used a Rosetta for our A/D and ext. clock and alot of cool mics/pres. If you are interested, listen to 'Spring Meets Summer' (the rest was recorded/produced by other folks at diff. places).
BTW, the song hasn't been mastered, just has some comp/limit thrown on for now.

Re: First Mix - Rock/Rap

(start rant here)man.... no offense against anyone caus I know a lot of you that post in here, but seriously will everyone please get over posting music on the mysuck.com pages?

seriously with all the malware infestations, and corporate government spy crap that goes on on that site, why does anyone use it? Its not going to make music any more popular, and half the people that attempt to join your friends list (DUC people not included) on there are not really your friends and don't give 2 cents about your music...

Personally this is just my humble opinion, but I'd even listen to more music on here if it were posted in low res mp3 format than posting music on musuck.com... that site is so evil and such a waste of time... (end rant here)

and now back to your regularly scheduled program..

Charlie,
I am guessing that you are talking about MySpace. In all reality man, and I hate to say this, but I had most of my business last year with myspace. Free marketing is free marketing. Whether or not they track, etc. Pretty much any music site does this and is done vey easily. If you have server space and link it to a external player it is even better. There are a few crazy fanatical people on there that live, breathe and eat it up like it is the existence of man. That makes me laugh.

Otehrwise, free marketing is free marketing amigo.

Re: First Mix - Rock/Rap

I have no complaints about myspace other than the fact that I do not feel comfortable linking my 9 year old nephew to my site. I may sound like a prude but I could do without all of the racy adds and stuff but it's an online community so whatever.

Myspace has indeed connected me with people which has ultimately led to work and promotion for my music. So, having said that, if you don't like myspace then fine, maybe you should start a petition .

Some great online music-only communities are reverbnation (their fan outreach engine rocks), Artistopia (cheesy interface but worth membership), and purevolume.

Re: First Mix - Rock/Rap

Doc: yep, indeed ranting about myspace... I get the free marketing thing about it, but the fact that myspace has become this evil corporation that exploits their user base for their own gain for starters is evil.... not to mention its sorta like "lets join the band wagon and all go jump off of a cliff all at once"... That and seriously that site consumes you and wastes too much of life... I personally prefer to meet someone in person over that site caus its so impersonable.. just my 2 cents though... and if you really wanna link a player for your music so people don't just download and link your mp3's or whatever all day, why not get creative and build your own on your own site? All it takes is a bit of php code and some knowledge to embed something like the WMP to your site and voila... Free is free, but I just have so many rants about how they handle everything..

btw... you know how they keep it "Free"... they exploit your computer with adware and malware through programs designed for mass marketing over the internet legally and illegally... you wouldn't believe the @#$% I've found in cookies and what not from mysuck.com...

corTools: yeah, would start a petition, but who's got time... I prefer to just avoid the site, but fact is most of my friends here on the site are utilizing myspace to post their music, so by attempting to keep my machine clean and what not, I am missing out on some great music caus everyone does not post in any other format than myspace... I agree with the thing about the racy ads as well... not that I am against it, but its no place for kids which is where its the most popular..

Hello all,

I just wanted to share my music with those of you are interested in instrumental fusion. I wrote and performed everything posted using a Digi 001, Garage Band, and free plug ins. My goal has is to create tracks that range from sounding as if a real band is playing to electronica. I work in many styles and have been published. I just recently singed a licening agreement with Daddy Jack Music for "Happy Gone Lucky" and "Jingle Blues 78". Goto www.broadjam.com/robin to check it out.

yeah yeah, no offense, but your machine to run, not mine my friend. Even places like isound.com are better than Myspace imho caus they are less spyware infested, not run by corporate jerks, and there isn't much other issue.. not to mention you can even imbed the player right on your own personal web page if you are concerned about people downloading your music that much instead of streaming it. anywho.. post on guys.

Finally some new stuff!!

Hello Roy and all...long time no post! Great to see this thread is still going strong and that all of you are as well!

We (my brother Steve and me) just finished a new album (yes, I'm old school...so what??) , OK CD project for Godfrey Townsend, the guitarist for Alan Parsons Live Project that Steve tours with. I'm really proud of the job my bro did engineering with my assistance over the phone (and playing drums on the whole thing) on my old Digi001 rig. I'd really like you guys to hear it. The only thing we didn't do ourselves on the 001 in NJ and the 002 here in Florida is the mastering. It was mastered at The Cutting Room in NYC and they did a great job!
While most of the tracking was done on our two rigs, more than a few tracks were pulled from old (some as old as 10 years) Cakewalk tracks that Godfrey did on his own while he was writing.

The genre is Instrumental Rock Guitar, the likes of which I haven't heard much in the last few years.

There are snippets of five songs on the promo page on our website:

Easy Journey To Other Planets page

and one complete track for you guys to check out here:

Thanks for listening and thanks in advance for your comments!

Here's a mix I got online awhile back. I have NO idea who the band is, but they recorded their guitars direct. I re-amped them in....gulp...Logic Pro using Logics' guitar amp pro. Then re-mixed it in P.T.L.E. using DUY plug-ins and Aptrigga on the kicks replacing them with kicks from D.F.H.S.

Da' tune! Any questions, just ask!!!!

Thanks for listening!

Bored so I remixed it...

All, (Posted this elsewhere but figured why not??)
So I am trying to dial in my new mix room with the traps, etc. So far so good. I decided to remix a tune from the first band that put out a full length with me called Orion. My friend and the singer of this band really liked this ballad tune so I said sure thing. They are now no longer so it was fun to just mix. I CRUSHED the first mix, but went back to correct the vocals as they were slammed, but on purpose. ;-) I like the overall sounds. They brought this to me a few years back from their studio. Used some new tricks with the sample replacements, etc. Still dialing in some parts, but it was much better than the original I mixed 4+ years ago. Much more punch, still totally 80's though, but they are great guys. I am using all of my outboard gear to mix this too. Stemming out to my API and what not for summing. I cannot wait until my house sells to get the HD rig and API DSM setup. Right now it is like this:

Vocals out to my 73i into the API
Bass out to my other 73i into the 160 the the API
The rest of the mix goes to the last two channels into my Trident 80B for a little EQ and then into the API.
Back into Protools via APOGEE into Tools as a Stereo Aux. Thru, Analog Channel, a little eq (thanks Mr. Dye) into the SSL compressor and a small amount of L2. I then buss that to a stereo Audio track and write it.

Anyways, this is a very late 80's power ballad tune, but these guys are nice as hell and it was fun to remix it.

ORION - HEART IN A BOTTLE - REMIX

Enjoy,
Doc

P.S. It is on my myspace page too in case you just want to stream it.

Hi,
Like your music accompanyment. Very atmospheric, sounds clean and all mixed sweetly.
Diggin " Outerbidge Crossing", moody and kick in real nice about 1:30mins or so.
Totally agree with your philosophy on your work also. You are influenced by cities too? Just watched Collatoral again last night. Fab soundtrack.

I am also doing something similar, but the projects I have been working on are a tad different.
You can check them out at:

http://www.grahamnewcombe.com and sure let me know what you think.

I'm only doing this for about a year or so my production is variable on project to project as I learn more.

Take it easy

New one

All,
So an old band that I mixed way back when sent me a new track to remix for them. It is still being worked some but I really like it so far. Vocals need to be tuned in spots, but for old rocker dudes it was fun to mix. These guys are no more, but still play as a fun friend thing. Same band as I posted up above too.

Check out their MySpace link to hear the original. This was all tracked on a Mackie board into an Alesis and mixed in another app. They sent me the tracks and I went to town on it. Kinda a fun ole' school rock tune. IT HAS SOLO's! '-)

Original is called "Jessica's Song" on their player here: http://www.myspace.com/quebeca

Fixed the link so here is the new version:

Jessica's Song - ORION

Re: First Mix - Rock/Rap

I'm almost computer illiterate...which is probably why I use MySpace. I have no idea how to "embed a WMP" on my website. (Is it easy?)

I do have to say that I've heard some fantastic music because MySpace exists. I can't say I don't love it. It helps me keep track of local bands (where and when they are playing) and I get to listen to bands/artists all over the world with a click of a mouse. Heaven for me.

I have just put up a new tune as a matter of fact. This one made me fall in love with Pro Tools all over again. I love the way it turned out. It's a little jazz...a little rock. I got all "Wes Montgomery/Al Di Meola" on it at certain points. What a joy PT made it. (wipes a tear)

It's called "Sin". 7 Wyatts stuff

Big thanks to those in the forum that helped me get my PC running last month so I could create this one. Best frigging forum on the entire friggin internet, by golly!
