PT 10.3.10 Crashing (SOLVED)
Out of the blue PT has started crashing when working on one particular session. It will either 'hang' (spinning beachball req Force Quit) or just quit altogether. Often when I am not even doing anything. Other sessions seem OK.
I thought it was maybe a corrupt session so tried a new session with session data import. Still no joy. I've also tried the usual trashing Prefs etc. Nothing new installed and plugs seem OK in other sessions. System is qualified. It's a very modest session - just a few audio and VI tracks + minimal plugs. Comp should handle this with ease. Any suggestions guys? PT 10.3.10 running on Mac Mini Quad 2.0 i7 8GB RAM Mac OS 10.8.5. |
Re: PT 10.3.10 Crashing
As I understand it: existing session - crash. New session with import from old session - crash. No crashing on other sessions right?
Do you get crashes if you reboot after a crash? A couple of oddball things come to mind and they may not be it but worth looking into. First is have you cleaned out the dust bunnies from inside the Mini? Take off the bottom cover and clean out the little blower intake and exit - Mini's get their air intake through the bottom cover. My thinking here is overheating. The other is is your ram okay? I don't know how to really test the ram so can't help there. Speaking of ram - I wonder if you may have a program with a memory leak? Also not all programs return unused ram when they quit. |

Thanks for the suggestions Jack. I will definitively look into those and report back.
Yes. The crashes / hangs continue after a reboot. |
Re: PT 10.3.10 Crashing (SOLVED)
I have found the cause of the issue. It seems to have been a couple of errant Soundtoys plug-ins which caused the instability when instantiated. Maybe the iLok Manager update last month broke them.
In any event, bringing them up to date fixed it. |

There's your problem right there cause I went through the same thing. You need 16 GB of RAM because pro tools uses 8 just to function.

PT 10 is 32 bit. Can't use more than 4Gb's of ram. You should not be giving faulty advice. |

I just told you that I went thru the same thing so if you think I gave you false advise good luck. I do not have time for games.
