002 + 002r?

Morning - tried searching but was unable to find the answer to this question:

I have a 002 AND a 002R. Is it possible to use the optical connector and use the 002R as an additional 8 inputs (giving 16 in total)?

Has anyone tried this - before I try?

Thanks.

Re: 002 + 002r?

AFAIK, this has never worked. Beyond that, since the 002 is not considered very "good sounding" by anyone(unless they got the Black Lion mods), you have several options for adding 8 inputs over the lightpipe connection. Here's a short list out of many:
1-Behringer ADA8200(the red model). 8 Preamps that sound better than the 002, plus 8 more outputs(multiple headphone mixes:D). Around $200
2-Presonus D8. Sounds equal to, or better than the 002(no outputs) $250-350 second hand
3-Focusrite OctoPre Mk II. Equal to #1, but more expensive(no outputs)
4-Focusrite OctoPre Mk II DYNAMIC. Like #3 but adds 8 outputs and simple compressors for each input
5-Midas XL48(my favorite). No outputs, but these preamps stomp all over most anything for drums. This thing outs all the above to shame. Around $850
6-Focusrite ISA-428 and 828. Very high quality, very pricey, but not as fat on drums as the Midas($1500-2500 with the lightpipe option card

There are several other brands with similar products, but I have owned and used all the above. If cash is tight, the Behringer is a no-brainer:D
