video card

I'm looking to buy a video card for PT 10. Other than the AVID recommendations, what 2 monitor card is proven to work stably?

Win 7 x64 Home Premium
i7 920 (socket 1366)
Gigabyte EX58-UD4
12GB DDR3 (Kingston 2GB x4 / Vengeance 4GB x1)
ATI Radeon HD 3450
Mackie Onyx 820i

Re: video card

Well I use an Nvidia gtx 590 card with dual monitors and it works perfectly so far. But this is a fairly high end card and is kind of expensive.

Yeah, I'm not looking to spend that much as I have a mobile rig & a home rig to buy for. I'm just looking for a proven, £100 card which isn't going to give me any probs.

Thanks

Re: video card

Well from what I know, nvidia cards tend to have better luck then ATI.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced Nvidia card
Capable of dual monitors which is proven to give good stability.

For Pro Tools GeForce GTX 200 series. For any thing more GTX 500 series.

By the way how is your Onyx 820i running with Pro Tools?

Hi Aaron, sorry to jump in, but you might find it helpful to know my Onyx Blackbird (rack version of 820i with same preamps, converters) has acquitted itself admirably so far. It's been very composed. I'm still feeling my way around PT and haven't really gone for it yet, but it feels like a good tool for the job.

Ahhh... I've just reconfigured my hardware synthesizers to be streamed through the Onyx 820i. So far so good. I'll be switching playback engines with Pro Tools tomorrow.
