EuControl discontinued for Avid Artist Series?
 

Hi
As mentioned on the official Avid download page, per October 28, 2021 the EuControl does not support the Artist Series (discontinued) anymore?

Could you please inform all the current users of the Artist Series, which EuControl Version is the latest released one?

The latest release will work for all Artist Series as usual.

But beware… different Artist Series devices have different end of support dates. Looks like the Artist Mix is the only Artist Series device that is currently supported according to the Avid matrix posted above.

Eddie, can you clarify the difference between “tested and supported” and “will work”? I say this coming from the old 002 family where the 003 was “tested and supported”, and while the 002 series used the same controller (I believe), it was not “tested and supported” although we were told it “would work” and indeed it worked fine for me, many years after the end of it being “supported”, until I sold it on.

I must admit - I cannot find this message I posted anymore, but it was a very coloured one with exactly this message on it. Maybe a mistaken information :rolleyes:

Anyway...I installed the EuControl and it works on my units without problems at the moment.

The End of Support dates generally refer to hardware support/repairs. These are firm cutoffs as we plan stock of spare parts for 5 years etc. Technically speaking this is the end of phone support and bug fixing too. But for EUCON software in particular we do some testing on Artist Series every release and fix minor bugs. Sometimes a feature just works or is easy to port so they get that too. The bulk of our testing does go on the currently sold products though. We will continue this way for as long as possible but due to so many OS changes its getting harder and harder.

I have artist mix an artist control. great units.

I am thinking of going to ulitimate- are these guys going to work?

will firmware upgrades make this a one way trip?

Based on the fact that EuCon software is still getting updated and should work with Artist Mix for the foreseeable future (since there's no hardware changes needed), would it still be a good option to buy a used Artist Mix right now? The S1's dimensions are not as appealing to me along with that permanent iPad dock.

I'm the Product Manager and whilst I don't have a crystal ball I can say we will carry on supporting the Mix(and other Artist Series) with bug fixes until the end of the Mixs' support date.
