Exponential Audio announces new surround plugins

Exponential Audio is proud to announce a pair of new surround reverb plugins. PhoenixVerb Surround and R2 Surround are modeled on the popular PhoenixVerb and R2 plugins and support every popular format from mono to 7.1. Both are native plugins, and support AAX, AU, VST and RTAS on both Mac and Windows in 32 and 64-bit forms. PhoenixVerb Surround is a pure, natural reverb that subtly blends with any source material. R2 Surround is a more active character reverb that makes any track stand out.

Both reverbs feature a brand-new early reflection section which allows source material to be placed with tremendous flexibility. Whether the mixer needs a wide, natural distribution for scoring or a tight, well-placed position for foley, it's easy to get the necessary result. This is followed by the reverberator itself, with its own rich set of controls. Each plugin has hundreds of well-organized presets, with many more to follow. There are halls, rooms, exteriors, plates, futzes and more. The engineer can easily mark any of these as a favorite, making quick work of finding just what's needed for the mix. Preset review is quick, with smooth and quiet parameter changes. Both plugins integrate with Avid® and Euphonix® consoles by means of EUCON®.

PhoenixVerb Surround and R2 Surround are the result of two decades of reverb design by Michael Carnes, designer of reverbs used around the world. They have undergone extensive review with many of the leading audio post engineers in the business and are already in production work. PhoenixVerb Surround will sell for $359 and R2 Surround for $459. There will be a bundle price for the pair. Release is expected before the end of November, 2013. More information is available now at http://www.exponentialaudio.com.

Exponential Audio is a private company located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Out of curiosity:

Why not have the two reverb-styles in one instance? Since it seems like they share the identical interface I was wondering why I would want to handle two different units where I used one before.

Thanks,

Frank.

Re: Exponential Audio announces new surround plugins

I've been sitting on the sidelines waiting for Michael to announce these two reverbs.
First, They sound amazing! Second Michael and his support is outstanding.
I had over 40 Re-Recording Mixers, Sound Supervisors,Sound Designers and Scoring Mixers here at "The Dub Stage" for a demo and everyone was blown away by these two Surround verbs. They are 7.1, 5.1 and more. Can't speak highly enough about them. They are rock solid and I use them everyday on every project.
They are my go to verbs.

Re: Exponential Audio announces new surround plugins

Right, I didn't challenge the quality. Haven't even demoed them yet. Just wondering about the two different style reverbs in two different plugins intead of having them in one unified plugin.

(think Waves Q EQs. 10 different plugs for the same thing or having 2 different Lexicon 960. One for short and one for long reverbs)

Will definitely try it (never got around with Revibe coming from AltiVerb and need replacement in PT11) but the need for two different plugs for real and surreal reverbs puts me off a bit. Since I need only either/or in 99.9999% of the time why waste a whole instance of CPU per reverb channel to cover the full bandwidth of reverbs.

Or can I do weird stuff with the PoenixVerb as well?

Hope this clarifies my point.

And Frank, I wasn't replying to your post, just making a comment on these verbs and how much I like them. They are different and deserve to be split up.
Try a demo and you'll see.It also makes them more affordable to the masses.
If you combined them ( I wouldn't) it would price them outside of what many people could afford. That doesn't mean that there won't be people complaining anyway. ;)

Re: Exponential Audio announces new surround plugins

As the stereo version of R2 is my definite favourite reverb, I guess this surround version will be just as amazing.

Hi Frank,
Although the UIs are similar (as they should be, whenever possible), the architecture is different. I have combined Plates, Halls, and Chambers (rooms too) into each plugin. In my Lex days, those were still separate plugs, but I've been able to subsume all of those under a common structure.

But the remaining differences are really too great to be able to combine. So they're separate plugs, with somewhat different targets.

:-)

Then why not sell the bundle as a one-instance-plugin? Doesn't everyone prefer less windows, knobs, clicks etc. etc. over more? Especially in post?

:D

Depends on what you mean by weird  The Gate and Chorus give R2 and R2 Surround some special capabilities, but Phoenix Surround has plenty of odd things--futzes, exteriors, slapbacks and so on.
