Smart Tool / Pencil Tool in Midi Editor

Hi everybody,

I'm having a problem with the Smart Tool in the Midi Editor of PT8.
When I press "Start", I get the pencil tool.
According to the manual, "Alt + Start" should give me the Erasor tool, but it doesn't.
Any ideas? Does this work for you or is it a general bug?

Thanks a lot!

Andy

Don't know but double click creates and deletes notes.

Have you tried using the F keys??? Lets see,,,,, I think F8 is the grabber tool, F7 & F8 together I think gives you the smart tool. Funny thing,,, I do this in my sleep many times a day and now to think about it,,,,, well ,, old age I guess, and don't have PT running or I could give you the correct info. Start with F 6 or so through F10 (pencil tool),,, you'll find out which is which. But the smart toll is two of them together, I think its 7 & 8?? Hope this is what your looking for,,,,,, Mike

Start and Start+Ctrl whilst in Smart tool mode are move note start and note end to edit selection or insertion.

pianosound, you're right. F7+F8 or F6+F7 switches to the Smart Tool.

filosofem, now I'm totally puzzled. My PT8 reference guide says:
"To temporarily switch the Smart Tool to the
Pencil tool, press Start (Windows) or Control
(Mac).
To temporarily switch the Smart Tool to the
Eraser, press Alt+Start (Windows) or Option+
Control (Mac)."

The latter one does not work for me.

To temporarily switch the Smart Tool to Eraser I believe you first must have the cursor as the Selector Tool, the one that looks like two inverted brackets, and them press Alt+Start.

Cheers,

Hi Bruce

That doesn't work for me. Smart tool enabled, Alt (Selector) off note plus Start is the Pencil tool. Alt+Start on note is duplicate note start or note end to edit selection or insertion.

No Eraser in Smart tool mode it seems.

I wonder if this is a bug. Generally I either Cut or double click. ;)

Thanks, filosofem, I will try the doubleclick.
I think the "alt-start" could be a PT8 bug.

But if doubleclicking works that's fine for me as well...

Either that Andy or it's been miss written in the guide. There has been a lot of commands added to modifiers in Smart tool mode with Pro Tools 8 and follows modifier conformity. The reference to the Eraser could have followed on from 7.x.

Cut (x) isn't far from Alt. :-) ;)
