Free plugins can't be installed
Hello community,
I got Pro Tools First and no less than 20 free plugins when I bought the SSL 2+ interface. Yay! Always a Logic user, I was happy to finally get the chance to try Pro Tools. I installed the DAW with no problems, also the 5 first plugins. But for the rest of the free plugins I get the following message (translated from Danish): "xxxxx.pkg" cannot be opened because Apple cannot investigate whether it contains malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information." Well, the developer, via Avid Global Customer Care, recommended I'd try to find the answer in this forum. I have searched high and low but I haven't found an answer here, nor under "First Common Issues" on the Avid site. (Still haven't tried the Pro Tools First user page on Facebook.) Anyone else experienced this? And did you find a solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: Free plugins can't be installed
It may be that the plugins that came with your interface are not Pro Tools First compatible. What plugins are you having issues with?

Re: Free plugins can't be installed
Hi Tom,
Thanks for your reply. According to the info from Solid State Logic when I purchased SSL 2+ my offer includes "The light version of the industry-standard Pro Tools music production software, with an exclusive collection of 23 AAX plug-ins including the Classic Compressors Bundle: BF-2A, BF-3A, Purple Audio MC77, Fairchild 660 and Fairchild 670." So far, so good. All the items are available to me under "My Products" on my Avid account. In my world it wouldn't make any sense putting the plugins there if they're not compatible with Pro Tools First? I installed the DAW and these 5 plugin packs with no issues: (and as far as I can tell they also work as intended): - Classic Compressors Bundle 18.8 (Mac) (55.02 MB) - Eleven Lite 12.0 (Mac) (11.08 MB) - In-Tune digital tuner 12.0 (Mac) (7.86 MB) - Sci-Fi Ring Modulator 12.0 (Mac) (8.14 MB) - Vari-Fi Speed Shifter 12.4 (Mac) (7.77 MB) However, the following 14 plugins can NOT be installed: - BBD Delay 18.8 (Mac) (2.31 MB) - Black Op Distortion 18.8 (Mac) (2.09 MB) - Black Spring Reverb 18.8 (Mac) (2.13 MB) - C1 Chorus 18.8 (Mac) (2.12 MB) - DC Distortion 18.8 (Mac) (2.6 MB) - Flanger 18.8 (Mac) (2.36 MB) - Graphic EQ 18.8 (Mac) (1.85 MB) - Gray Compressor 18.8 (Mac) (2.21 MB) - Green JRC Overdrive 18.8 (Mac) (2.1 MB) - Orange Phaser 18.8 (Mac) (2.33 MB) - Roto Speaker 18.8 (Mac) (2.04 MB) - Studio Reverb 18.8 (Mac) (2.04 MB) - Tape Echo 18.8 (Mac) (2.32 MB) - Tri-Knob Fuzz 18.8 (Mac) (2.29 MB) So, the question is: Is this a software issue that Avid can fix, or is there another way to work around this? My system won't even let me open these packs. Again, the message I get on my Mac is: "xxxxx.pkg" cannot be opened because Apple cannot investigate whether it contains malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information." Grateful for any help. Best regards, Anders |

Let me try to elevate this. It's a new one for me.

Re: Free plugins can't be installed
Thank you, TOM@METRO. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Top Jimmy: I just tried that now - but nope, still get the same message. Remember of the 5 plugins downloaded the normal way (not via Avid Link) could be installed, the rest couldn't. -Anders |

I'm still waiting for a reply from the powerful ones. :-)

Re: Free plugins can't be installed
Anders, your signature says you're on 10.15.7, is that correct? The error you describe sounds very much like what I got when I tried out M1 mac mini w/Bigsur. Some of my plugins also didn't work that had worked on Catalina.

Re: Free plugins can't be installed
Hey Ben Jenssen,
That's correct, I'm on Catalina 10.15.7. I just bought this MacBook Pro, about a month ago. It's as new as it can be. I decided to wait with the M1 and judging from problems people have had with third-party developers and Big Sur, I was lucky enough to realize my computer was delivered with Catalina. :-) I've been able to install everything else, upgrades and new plugins, from several other developers (fx. SSL, Native, Spitfire, Celemony, Synthogy, Korg and others) with no issues whatsoever. Also Pro Tools First and 5 of the included plugins! It's just the rest of the free plugins from Avid that can't be installed. Thanks again, Tom! :-) Anders |

Hey,
Ben Jenssen: Yes, that's correct, I'm on Catalina 10.15.7. I just bought this brand new MacBook Pro, about a month ago. I decided to wait with the M1, and judging from the problems people have had with third-party developers vs. Big Sur, I was lucky enough to realize that my computer was delivered with Catalina. :-) I've been able to install everything else, upgrades and new plugins, from several developers (fx. SSL, Native, Spitfire, Celemony, Korg, Synthogy and others) with no issues whatsoever. Also the Pro Tools First program itself and 5 of the included plugins! It's just the remaining 14 plugins that can't be installed at this point. Thanks again, Tom! :-) Anders |
