Mbox 2 mini doesn't work

Dear members,

I'am having some issues with my mbox 2 mini + Pro Tools LE 8 which i bought yesterday. Installed it and everything went pretty good. I went to my control panel and selected the mbox to be the standard audio device. Not all application were allowing me to play sounds, but at least windows media player did, although it was a bit laggy.

Today i turned on my PC, and guess what.. it does recognize the mbox as usb device in the right bottom of my screen but i have no sound at all. Only Pro Tools is giving me sound.

Now when i go to my control panel and look at audio devices, my Mbox is not listed.

Please help!

Specs:
Windows XP SP3
Asus P5K motherboard
Realtek HD Audio output onboard soundcard
2GB Ram
Intel Quad Core Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

You need to use the MME helper to allow the M-box to play Non-pt audio.

Thanks, but doesn't work for me because i also have to set the Mbox as default audio device in my control panel.
Unfortunatly, it isn't listed

It doesn't work that way. You "opt in" programs to the MME helper (did you download and install it yet?)
Now, bear in mind, it's single client so will only access one program at a time, which makes 'net audio tricky, and it won't play Quicktime or I-tunes at all because there's a "Known compatibility issue" with those programs and Digi hardware.
What you're dealing with is the fact that Digi designed their hardware to be a Pro Tools interface, and not a "soundcard." The vast majority of us use our on-board sound cards for incidental audio, and our Digi Interfaces as just that. It's much more reliable.

I understand thanks for your help, too bad i just spended 300$ on it
Anyway, i unistalled everything and reinstalled it. I'am having sound again (don't know for how long) but i'am having lagg with my music. Whenever i play a song via internet or wmp is it lagging/stuttering.

Is this a know issue or better yet, is there a fix for it?

Yeah i fully understand it right now (i think)

One final question. Is there any possibilty to plug my monitors into my Mbox AND on-board soundcard?
Because, it would be nice if the incidental audio would play through my monitors.
This way i can use the mbox only for pro tools.

To do what you want to do, you would need an extra piece of gear. A small mixer for the MBox and PC, and then out to the monitors would work.

Re: Mbox 2 mini doesn't work

I just use 2 separate speakers for 2 reasons. A) no extra mixing gear needed B) I hook my second pair of speakers into my mbox headphone out to monitor through a different pair of speakers. So if it sounds good on computer speakers, and on my monitors, it must sound good overall.
