DSP Chip
Have any of you guys heard of this...CreamWare Pulsar II Z-Link 6-Chip DSP Card. It's a farm/HD card that can work with PTLE or any other system giving extra I/O's and CPU relief. Just wondering if any body has used it and does it work?

Re: DSP Chip
i've seen and heard one .. but it's pretty old hardware ... and
the processing power ... i think the whole card *might* equal one digi presto chip. in fact, i believe the card is being phased out (like Musicians Friend doesn't carry them anymore). the big bummer was the plug-ins .. they just weren't very good. if you're looking for hardware assist, i would consider the TC Electronics Powercore 2 .. pretty good chips . and the Sony Oxford plug-ins work on them. another route would be the Waves APA 44 .. (forget the 32 .. which isn't very powerful and sounds like plane throttling for take off). of course, they only support Waves .. and some of the plug-ins aren't available .. although Waves has been growing the catalog. IMHO, with PT7 and the ability of the RTAS suite to take advantage of multiple processors .. throwing money at conventional hardware makes a whole lot of sense .. on my dual core system, you can add a whole heck of a lot of RTAS plugins and reserve the heavy lifting for the monsters (IR-1, QClone, etc.). jeff |
