Very nice! The severly band limited vocals never go out of style - love 'em. Sounds like some obvious auto-tuning going on, but maybe that is on purpose...still I'd love to hear the tune with the human nuances left intact. Overall - love the tune and the melody.

So, how did you get Suzanne Vega to sing that ?

graveleye, I like it. I think the guitars could have a better mix. Andy Summers has a great chorus sound/mix, check out some Police records to see what I mean.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Here's a song of mine with a little story to it. I was asked to record a live-performance in a park in Arnhem. Everything was a little vague but the band and i decided to try it anyway. Turned out that i had 10 minutes to set up my rig. That was placing 3 mic's on the stage (2 X AKG 430 from the side and a Behringer B2 for the percussion), and running a multicore to the back of the tent, and set up my mixer and ADAT-recorder. I was able to get a line from the FOH mix as well. So i ended up with 5 signals, 3 of my own that picked up the stage-sound and 2 with the FOH-mix. After some tweaking (mainly try to cope with dynamics, and adding some eq)i came to this result.

http://bastiaan.ods.org

and the song is "Hotel - Jan the Man"

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I am a big Police fan actually. I blame the guitar mix on my crappy amp. I have thought about re-recording the guitars dry then using amplitube, but for now this is just a club demo to get us some work.
Thanks for the nod though

Nice going Kev !
Yep, that Police guitar thing... me like !
The songs is also reminiscent of Split Enz (early Finn Bros from Crowded House).
Nice energy ! (Is that you singing ?)
I'm just commenting on the track here 'cause I'm listening through my laptop speakers. Will listen closely on monitors.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

actually I did record it on pro-tools... just recently in fact. It is an older song though, one I wrote about 15 years ago.
We are resurrecting the song to include in our set. Neither me nor the drummer had played the song for years and it showed, until I got into the drum mix. I didnt cut the drums on this one though, not tom for tom edits anyway. Instead just fixing some unsure parts. I was aiming for an old school live sound on this one.
My studio is far from complete, and everything was recorded with just the 001 and PT.
Thats me singing too - do I sound angry enough for an old guy?

Understatement of the year! What is the deal with that guy.

I like Bastiaans post "Office Space Rules"

Did ya get the memo?

Forget that guy, let him babble, the DUC will ban him and he will create a new name to get a rise out of us. Obviously he has issues and thinks that the attention from others will help his ego out. Oh well I have wasted enough time on this reply for that guy..... But the Office Space quote rocks....

<hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">hey thanks Roy! I appreciate the listen and the critique! Thats funny you should mention the low end thing. When I was "mastering" I had two separate mastering takes and I liked them both - the one I posted was where I lightened the mix up with a 10band eq pulling down the lows and some of the mids, slightly boosting the highs...nothing drastic, but I toiled over which one to post and picked the "lighter" mix. Perhaps I should re-think

Xray- good stuff, I like the songs and mixes. The only critiques would be bringing the vocal up just a touch. Also, where's the bass? I couldn't hear it at all on the bottom two songs. I know mixes of that genre don't have much bass a lot of times but... Anyway, good stuff.

Okay guys,

Here's another from an album that I've been working on for quite some time. This one is dear to me, so any advice and criticism is definitely welcome...anything to make it the best it can be!

Personally, I love the way the bass was played, but the tone is driving me nuts! I haven't listened to it for about a month, and that's the first thing that jumped out at me today.

So, without further ado: Out of Here

Chris,

I really dig this one man! Great song, and the bass sounds OK. I think in a few spots the vox could be a little more up front. The harmony vocals are great, those to need to be up a bit more. Maybe the snare could use a little more 'crack' to it... Man I hate you!! I am going to have this tune stuck in my head for weeks!!!

That's hot man. I quite like the bass tone.
Oh, and considering the drums have been played with brushes, I think you'll have problems getting some "crack" into the snare

Hi all,

It's been awhile but I've been busy trying to master protools and while I'm a long way from "mastering" anything, I wanted to share my first finished ProToolsLE product (what can I say? I work slow), which is a song called: Something to Believe In.

You can download it here: http://www.mp3.com.au/s2bi

Captain_Pants will probably be done with his remix soon, and from what I've heard, it kicks almighty butt, so I figured I'd best get the original out while I still can.

Love to hear your feedback.

Cheers,
Rhett

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey, Rhett!

Good to see you back. I heard "Something to Believe In" in a few weeks back when one of our mutual friends e-mailed me a link. Definitely a timely song. The concept is really cool, and the samples are great. Your voice with all the delay on it in the bridge sounds just like Thomas Dolby. (I'm a big Dolby fan.) As far as the mix is concerned, I'm not getting enough bottom end. I keep waiting for my woofers to move some air and it ain't happening. Could it be the MP3 encoder?

Greg
