"It made me want to get on a Harley and ride really fast with my chain saw whiping in the air. "

Pako,
I laughed out loud at that one... Well, this came from toying with Harley Davidson samples. I realized a Harley motor is really a percussive sound, and I wanted to hear how it would sound to put some 'chugs' within a certain bpm, part of them controlled, and part of them natural.
Then I just wrote the rest around that idea, and added guitars to it.
For synth, I have one sound module which I milk for all it's worth...it's a Korg 01R/W, which I run from a 'slave' keyboard.
I don't think I'm finished with it, but for today I am...

Cool, right on.... I'm looking into some synth moduals and a controller to help in my "solo" creative endevours as it's hard to get the band into the studio when I have the urge to create.

Nice, man... kinda hypnotic, very soothing in a cool way. I love the descending chords and sounds... I had a feeling your stuff would be really good.

roy, i loved "burn", its awesome. you should get some grungy, scratchy vocals on that song....like a metallica "fuel" type of thing, not that it needs it but it would be different.

keep up the good work.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hi Chris. Thanks for the compliment. Yep, all by my lonesome...I tried for a long time to find other musicians who wanted to do this sort of thing and eventually gave up and decided to do it myself. Unfortunately the Do-It-Yourself approach also caused me to divide my time for years between writing and learning enough of the technical side of things to produce recordings that at least sound passable. But I imagine many on the DUC can relate.

Over 1,000 posts in a single thread eh? I take it this is a test case. Glad to see the whole shebang didn't vanish into thin air!

Rational Punk/Dave,
I almost missed your first post, but luckily I caught it...
I'm very impressed. I read some of your site info, and yes, I can hear a slight 'Rush' influence in parts of your arrangements, but you use it wisely, without overbearing your own unique style. Ayn Rand, eh?... Very cool influence there as well; I really like your lyrics.
Thanks, and keep us posted with any new stuff we can hear.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've been on this thread - I've been submerged in my studio doing some projects 24/7. But I'm coming up for air and glad to be back.

OK, you guys actually get better in real time. I got to hear about 5 or 6 pieces from some of my favorite people and a few new ones, and as usual, I'm totally impressed. This thread beats listening to the radio any day. (Anybody watching the music scene lately? It's sickening.)

OK, I'm going to mention a few. Dr. John - "Waiting for your Heart" is killer. It's like modern-day Yes, only more accessible. Beautiful technical work on the vocals. Gotta listen to it a few more times, and I'll come back with more thoughts. Excellent.

Roy, City Streets launched me into a reverie as your music so often does. I'm trying to get the Harley tune to play as I write this (it's being a little stubborn) - I'm expecting it to be up there with your usual quality of work.

Greenroom - very slick. Very progressive. Great bass runs - impressive guitar work. Cool.

Kalle74 - Thought your stuff was really innovative and different. Loved the intro (how'd you do that?) and the breaks - offbeat chord strucure. Really great.

PK Hat - consistently good dark-groove electronica. Excellent mixes - good sounds (no cheesy electronic Casio crap). Tight production. There's a market for your stuff. Tap into it, man.

Sorry for those I didn't get to. Will try soon. I'll be back in a day or two to post some of the stuff I've been working on.

Be well everybody.

Ok. I got two new songs up. Both I would say fit into some sort of Techno/Dance catagory.
The first song, "Identity Crisis Part 1(edit)+Part 2", is basically a traditional beat, I just was expirementing with my new vocoder programs on my synth module. Tell me what you think.
The second song is called "Sign". This song was an expirement with an AT&T Text to Speech program I found online. I thought it fit good. PLease tell em what you think. They can be found at:
Agenda: Entropy

Thanks. Another one will be up later today or tommorow.

Hi all, just listening to all the latest as I type this. Great new pieces so far!

Rational Punk/Dave, amazing job and all on your own? I especially liked counterfeit heroes. Truely a great composition. Can't wait to hear the mastered vers.

Greenroom, like to hear some more of your music, especially the jazz fusion stuff...like Roy said, smooth, cool, hypnotic.

Dr. John, REALLY like what you did with the vocals....with autotune and pith-n-time huh? Never thought that's how it's done. Good overall production also.

Roy, crazy samplin bro! Love what ya did with the harley sounds and guitar samples. Can't wait to hear the finished vers. I'm sure it will be killer.

Soundsufr, nice work with reason. I can tell your getting to have lots of fun with it. It was all done in reason? Impressive, really.

Hope to listen to more asap...gotta get to bed though...need at least 5 hrs sleep tonight

Take care all

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the MP3s (and thanks to everyone who took the time to stop by and have a listen!). Actually 99% of what you're hearing (aside from a few last-minute keyboard dubs) was recorded through an Audiomedia III card (I didn't get the Digi 001 until those two songs were almost done). I wish I could tell you the exact mics used and such on the guitar and drums, but, well...all the drum and guitar parts were played on keyboards.

The drum layouts are from the Double Platinum Rock Drums sample collection, and the guitar sounds came from the Hans Zimmer Guitars Vol I and Vol II. I didn't have to do too much to the drums, apart from smoothing highs a little bit on cymbals...they have a nice, organic sound. The guitars I mostly ran through an ART Tube MP and an Alesis Q2, and then processed with EQ and multiband compression plugs. The power chords and chunky unison parts (which are probably the sounds you liked) were basically achieved by playing the parts several times with different sampled guitar sounds, stacking them with different EQ curves on each, and panning. When playing a drum part or guitar line on keys, I try to pay heed to all the little details like ghost notes, subtle bends, string squeaks and such...all the things that make the track sound more expressive and organic, despite its origins. Sorry, I know the info above may not be useful to you given that the parts were played on keys, but at any rate, that's how it was done.

Yav,
You've got the jazz corner of the DUC pegged, man. Great stuff as usual... is some of it live? ('Deluge' for example). I really love the horn on 'House of the Rising Sun', and well, all of it.

Peter/Last,
Well, I just absolutely love this song. You are one great producer. Everything entertwines just so well. Who's singing this? (I hope he's doing something you and I are writing). Of course, watch you come up and say, 'It's ME'... But, this is one of the best songs I've heard anywhere.
Now, get back to work on our stuff!...

Thanks, Roy

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yes, Actually they are ALL live.
That is the ONLY way I like recording Jazz.
We play off of eachother.

Even in studio no overdubs. Live to 8 or 1 tracks is the way to go for this kind of music.

These particular tracks you heard were all from 2 different concerts. Halay, for instance, was recorded ive on July 5th in Manchester, Vermont.

Delude was recorded on Aprl 26th 2000 in Manhattan, New York.

GP, Soundsurfr and Roy. Thanks so much for your positive comments. I know we are a kind of extended family here but its reassuring that people you really only know by their nicknames and who live in other continents think that what you're doing is worthwhile!!!!

God knows we've tried hard enough to make some headway in the UK with our stuff, but the 'market' is so obsessed with big-arsed divas, boy bands and shouty blokes with their basketball caps on backwards that theres no chance for a couple (cough) weight-challenged fortysomethings!!!

Anyway, MP3.com have finally got round to approving another song 'no encore' at

One of my better solos (IMHO)

Yavuzj,

I love jazz, and I have just bookmarked your site! Would love to hear hi res vers. of the songs. I got cable here so only takes a few to load.

1st, how are you recordig your live sessions? Just curious.

2nd, what's some of your main influences? I played lot's of styles of jazz guitar over the years. Was a big Lenny Bro fan to mention one but CHarlie Christian was my first listen for guitarist, although the "bird" would be my main influence. Always loved drawing the energy from the sax.

Quartet is sounding good bro....keep it up.
