If my Mac blows up - I lose my Waves plugins?

So I’m a professional music engineer with tight deadlines sometimes.

I own a few Waves plugins…. the authorizations are connected to my Mac Pro via Waves Central. (I don’t seem to have a choice in this matter)

If my Mac blows up - I lose my Waves plugins?

Is there any mechanism to get those lost licenses onto a replacement Mac Pro?

If yes - how long does this take?

Just curious.

Thanks

You can authorize to a USB stick. I would recommend that way. If your Mac blows up though it will be okay; Waves will clean up your authorizations for a situation like that up to once per year or something like that given you are current with your WUP. You would need to talk to their support.

Exactly. A USB stick is the way to go.

The current Waves software does not seem to allow me to authorize to a USB stick at all.

and....

I am not currently paying WUP.

and

to re-buy the plugins would possibly cost less than WUP year in year out... :(

I'm guessing Waves Central won't let you log in and move your licences to a USB stick because you haven't got a current WUP.

Maybe Waves can afford to sell plug-ins at a very low price so frequently because they make money selling WUPs.

I just found this on their website

http://www.waves.com/support/reactiv...cover-licenses

however i did recently hear about a pal of mine who saw a very bad situation where Waves plugins could not be rescued... not sure why ....

I would definitely check and make sure you don't need a WUP to do that!

I have my Waves on a stick-way to go indeed!

What if that blows up though? :D

If your Mac blows up, your plugins will be the least of your concerns.

Just leave them authorized to your computer and renew your WUP when you need to do so. Depending on your plugins, there might be some updates already you might want.

Your WUP should not cost the same as buying them new. Make sure you checkmark that you will run them on one computer.

Your USB issue might be due to formatting.

Syncing to a USB key is definitely the best approach. Are you sure the USB key you are trying to use is formatted correctly? Waves Central references the global unique identifier (GUID)... so even after accidentally having a crack at reformatting my waves USB key, reformatting it back to GUID instantly resurrected my licenses.

It does actually seem like Waves have put some thought into it!
