<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">hi roy, looks like you are taking song names from my sources i really like the slide, and thats your style! they should re-name it "howell" guitar, or something. i can hear it now- "yeah i just bought a glass howell, i used to use a stainless steel howell, and sometimes playing live i just use a beer bottle howell". I guess you've been a bad influence on me... I really appreciate the cool words about my slide playing too, because I respect your ears.

optymusblu,
Good song...was this recorded semi-live? It sounds like most of it was, though not the vocals... I notice the guitars tuned down to D...what kind of guitar(s) do you use?
Thanks for the listen...~Roy

I recorded everything myself,so I did it one instrument at a time.I play through a esp guitar with kirk hammit style emg's,Running through a marshall jcm 2000, recorded through an sm57.The vocals is what I feel im having the most trouble getting to mix right.Any suggestions would help tremendously.

Hey Roy, finally got a chance to listen to Route666. I dig it. Definitely got a bit of a Vai "Flexible" era type sound to it, especially the keys in the chorus part.

The clarity is really cool.

Nice job!

optymusblu,

I liked your song, and I agree with the feedback above. Did you play the drums yourself? It has a very live sound. What kind of mic did you use for the vox?

Roy, Route 666 (which is about to be renamed, there was an interesting article in the ny times last week, btw) is a great sounding song. I'm guessing that was done almost entirely direct, no? Also, is the bass a keyboard?

I'd be curious as to how you got those drum beats, did you use reason?

thanks, great stuff, all.

I use a Groove tube gt55 for the vocals. Thanks for all your advice,I took the dverb off the vocals, added short delay 2, and brought the volume down some and re did the eq.Ive got it sounding way better now,I also cut the guitars to the sharp left and right. It really livened things up a lot,I will try to post it on here.Speaking of posting music on here,How can I get it posted without having to use my garageband.com credits? Is there someway I can set something up where I can post my songs besides Garageband.com?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">it sounded pretty good for a newbie. i listened last night (along with a bunch of other music) and as i recall there were a few things i noticed. i think the vocals are way too loud. i dont remember specifically hearing what fx you used on the vocs. compression and reverb help to help sit vocals down into the mix, but dont overdo it, and sometimes you just need to lower the volume. i am not saying to bury the vocals, just that they are really on top of everything else right now. i think you could the backing music was a little muddy, but i think the overall mix of the music was pretty good. as i recall, the vocals were a bit brighter than the music tracks, which also would cause them to sound on top. i will try to listen again today, sometimes those 12 AM listening sessions get scrambled in the brain.
