Help! My Computer won\'t sleep!!
Ever since I've installed the Digi 001 card, into my computer i haven't been able to put it asleep. I tried disconnecting the scsi cable, but that didn't work. The only way I got my computer to go to sleep was to take out the entire pci card! I read on the website that

You do not want to be setting your computer for sleep mode when running Protools according to Digi recommendations.

Re: Help! My Computer won\'t sleep!!
I'm talking about when i'm done with Protools. After I've completed a session and finished recording I would like to put my computer to sleep as usual. I won't put it to sleep when Protools is running obivously; i quit all applications before i put my computer to sleep.
But this sleep functionality is lost when I have the Digi 001 card installed, i'm just wandering if there's a way around it. Maybe there's a software download or something? I would hate to have to leave my computer on all day, when i'm at class and work, with no one using it. If any one can help, I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE IT! Thanks for your time..... |
Re: Help! My Computer won\'t sleep!!
Go here: http://www.xmidi.com/digisleep.html birdFEEDER wrote digisleep to allow Sleep mode in OSX, which was neutered by digi in PT 6. It allows sleep (but won't allow PT 6 to load). It's a great fix for those of us who use our Macs for other apps. besides PT.

Re: Help! My Computer won\'t sleep!!
I leave my computer on all the time. The great thing about OSX is that you never really need to reboot. As far as putting it to sleep? why would I do that? Is it better other than being an energy saver?
I think my machine has been on for about 5 months+ ..........NO PROBLEMS! |
Re: Help! My Computer won\'t sleep!!
When I added a firewire card, i had the same problem. some PCI cards just wont allow the mac to go into deep sleep. its not PT issue its a hardware issue.

Re: Help! My Computer won\'t sleep!!
The issue in this instance is specifically PT. Digi disabled Sleep in PT 6 to eliminate the possiblity of corrupting a session. Using Digisleep allows a choice of maintaining a working desktop, of which Sleep is pretty relevant to users that are on and off of their machines a lot, and actually want to preserve the life of their machine, saving energy while allowing PT as needed, which does disable system sleep by design. You get it both ways here. Are having options a positive or negative? Cybers' issue is a PT issue, which has just been resolved.

Re: Help! My Computer won\'t sleep!!
Thanks eveyone for the help. I'm going to download that app, from that website. I think those folks over at Digi should really publisize this issue, as the sleep function is a major part of some peoples daily computer life. Thanks again for the help!! This forum is the best!!!!

Re: Help! My Computer won\'t sleep!!
The only problem with the DigiSleep Enabler is that now you have to reboot your computer if it's enabled BEFORE you can run ProTools.
From the site: "The tradeoff ? I'd sooner reboot my Mac only before and after using Pro Tools 6.x versus every single time I use my Mac." So....if you use PT more than anything else, it may be more of a pain in the butt than not having sleep mode. D |
