DIGI001 / Windows 95/98/?? - System Requirements etc BEGGING YOU TO HELP!

Hi

Can anyone please tell me what system requirements the DIGI001 (PC) version actually needs (to run 8 tracks at once-some effects etc) to run well...?

RAM? (how much is everyone using?)
HDD? (speeds/should you have 2 sep. drives)
M/B? (asus ?? )
CPU? (intel-pentium- value for money?)
sound card ? do you actually need a normal
sound card?

Im about to purchase a computer and I would really like to get this bit of my studio right.. if that makes sense.

if anyone could email me or reply on here it would be most appreciated

Musicfest,

All I know is that at the NAMMM show in Los Angeles they had a Beta version running on a Windows 98 OS with a Pentium 3 500 Mghtz Machine. I haven't heard from DIGI but I think that you will need at least 128 megs of Ram. 196 megs to run programs in the background. This will play back upto 24 tracks. It is reccomended that you have a normal sound card to play system sounds.

There will be a Windows 98 version of the Digi001 released Mid-2000. The compatiblity information will be released at that time as well. In the mean time you can check out the compatability documents for running Digi001 on the Mac platform which will give you a ballpark idea regarding the CPU and RAM requirements for the Windows 98 invironment. It's a safe bet that a Pentium III will be the CPU of choice for running the 001 but PLEASE, PLEASE wait for the official compatibility documents to be released before buying a PC or any other hardware for use with the 001.

umm just wondering where to find the compability documents on the digi001/digidesign side? -

heres my situation... 4 piece band based in brisbane qld australia.

guitar/vocals x 2, bass, drums and we want to do samples etc with our music (we're a grunge/alternate band).

we want to be able to get a product. and protools seemed the best way to go about it.

we've got ourselves a behringer mx2642 already and a bunch of cheap mics.. we're getting a kit of about 8 mics.

are we going the right way about it?

so we should wait a while before buying this PC.. I suppose prices can only really go down.. some people have said `PC's - NO WAY'
..

I haven't really had much hands on experience with protools ... but ive seen the digi001 promo video (pretty neat!).. anyhow.. im not sure who's seen the video, but they do this thing where one of the guys gets his recording of a riff.. and adds a drum bit (dummy like) to the session via some little midi doobywacker and a keyboard (also a doobywacker to me)... in my situation we dont have a lot of money for all this neat gear that many people with protools seem to have.. is there any way of adding drum things similar to that (in order to keep songs in time etc) without buying keyboards etc.

i suppose its all covered in the manual..

anyhow thanks for you advice!

The magazine Sound on Sound issue DEC 99 will help you.
PENTIUM III (maybe 500 or 550 MHZ best value)
HD 20 GB 7200 rpm
RAM minimum 128 MB - 192 MB recommended

Last I heard it was March? When the web site was changed from "first Quarter 2000" to First half 2000" someone posted a message here asking about that. Someone from Digi Design answered that they were still expecting th PC version to be available in March. But to keep out of trouble just in case it took until April to be released they changed the web site. NOW YOU ARE SAYING MID-2000?!?!?! to me that means June or July.

I can't wait that long. I have plans. Should I go get my deposit back?? When July finaly comes will you change the date again?? What about shipping the Beta version that everyone said ran great at the show and ship updates when they are available??

Please, I'm on my knees, how about giving us a definite date?? This is important to me.

DUDE, like you, I'm not rich either, but I
just set-up an awesome little studio for
under 5 grand. I did a lot of research
before-hand, and found that the digi001 and
the new Mac g4-400 were unbeatable bang 4 the
buck. I added 256 xtra Mb, a SCSI card, a
Yamaha 8x4x24 cdwr, Epson 740 printer, an
Alesis QS6.1, and some killer Klipsch spkrs.
If you haven't bought your computer yet,
maybe you should consider the Mac. After all,
doesn't the fact that they're having so much
trouble getting the PC version out make you
think...

Musicfest. I concur. Go with the G-4. You can pick up Final Cut Pro and actually make some money with your set-up. In between 'Grunge/Grarage'. At least make your own video...
