How about specifics on the outboard equipment used, mics, pre's etc.... And did you "Master it" ? -thx

drums were shure 57's with a beta52 for kick.
guitars were sm57s
bass was a beta52.
vocals used a rode NT2.
audix d series small diaphram condensers for drum overheads.

for a preamp i use some cheap 2 channel behringer tube pre, but replaced the tubes with some weird ugoslavian brand and it sounds fantastic. and no mastering. just got a decent mix, bounced it, converted to mp3 and stuck it online.

and the freight train guitar...a 1972 fender telecaster custom with a p90 for a neck pickup and a little59 humbucker for the bridge pickup through a peavy classic 50. oh yeah!

I've tried the upgrade route, David - but it just doesn't feel like recording at home, know what I mean? I keep finding myself returning to my 10 yo Apple G3 / 001 system still on PT LE 5.2.1

I bought an upgrade to PT LE 6 and OSX 10.2 but never got around to installing it LOL.

So guess which gets used more - my 5.2.1 desktop or my 8.0 laptop (Mbox carryaround)?

the latest from "The Ranch" is Beneath The Tide by This Too Shall Burn http://www.myspace.com/theranchrecordingstudio

their equipment is terrible, we spent almost 5 hours on the drums before I could put a mic near them, the Bass went direct split into a digimax channel and a eureka and the guitar on the right went strait into a digimax channel and is using the free podfarm plug, the guitar on the left we used a senn 421 and a sen e609 into digimax channels hearing a berringer 4X12 cab that only had 2 speakers working:eek:. The vocalist wanted to double everything and then again and again and again....and then "lets use them all":( I cut out allot:o

I don't think I have ever posted my music here so please check it all out, more at

thanks for listening:-)

Hey kids,

We've got 3 tracks up from our forthcoming album at www.autumngray.com

The entire thing was recorded on my Digi002r, using PT7 & 8LE, a wide variety of mics - some good, some average. Used quite a few plugs as well - some NI-B4II, Reason Pianos, Superior Drummer 2.

Any production issues are our fault entire.

The album was mixed by a pro on a HD3 system though, which polished it up a fair bit ;-)

It'd be great if you take a listen if you feel so inclined.

Cheers

Hellow folks. Have visiting here so long time ago... But latest stuff was Burning Point "Empyre" album, what is recorded and mixed by PTLE 6.4 and digi001 in our own "HelGate" studio. Only mastered in Finnvox studios. Samples you can find http://www.myspace.com/burningpointband though there are samples from three earlier albums too and only "Burned down the enemy" and "Empyre" are made with PTLE...

Cheers from (so warm in these days) Northern Finland :-)

Re: Let's hear your latest stuff....right here

I am working on this remix of a Hip Hop group from Brazil - I just need to lay down some Rhodes or Moog, not yet decided but here it is anyway. I basically completely changed the song from what it originally was, orginally it was a samba rock urban type tune - I added a bit of a New York vibe, at least that's what I though anyway - also used a lot of EA and the plugs were a 30 days trial period of the waves diamond bundle and i made the drums in the trial version of Addictive drums which is unlimted in time but offers only kick, snare, and hi hat.
You might wanna listen to that one your monitors though as it's very quiet, no form of mastering yet.

here it is:http://www.divshare.com/download/9552108-5b2

Here's the Brazilian Mic to those interested:http://www.divshare.com/download/8840418-14d

Opinions are not gonna fall on deaf ears so bring em on!

Peace

ps: I also made a mix CD of underground Brazilian psych and funk that people are more than welcome to grab whilst I'm uploading.

Has anyone been to Best Buy Or Walmart this week? All they sell now are Windows 7 64 bit machines. The Walmart sales person said all XP and Vista computers have been recalled. Avid/Digidesign clearly states Pro Tools LE is not compatible with any 64 bit Windows operating systems. So if you already have a LE interface and running XP or Vista, your OK, untill your XP/Vista machine dies.
How can Avid/Digidesign still continue to sell 003,002 or Mboxes when you cannot even buy a new Windows computer that will run Pro Tools???? Avid/Digidesign wont even respond to emails on this problem.
I personally don't care for Pro Tools except for the fact I can get the latency low enough to use it as a live processor, 2 tracks.
I would look at Cakewalk Sonar or Steinberg Nuendo, as I have never seen a Pc that wont run them.
Just a warning for people looking at getting into Pro Tools LE and a Windows computer.

Hey guys and gals. I'm looking to get some feedback on two new mixes I just finished. The songs are sort of a country style which I don't have a whole lot of experiance with. It's also my first full album recorded with all live drums, so any feedback, suggestions, what sounds good, what you might do differently, etc, would be appreciated. The album is not released yet, so there is plenty of time to tweek my mixes. All songs were recorded with a Macbook Pro on an 002 rack and mixed with PT 8 on the 003 factory. Thanks for any feedback!

Nice sound!.. Really good songs, voices, musicians, half the battles already won.:D

On "Long Time" and this is being really picky, pull the BGV's down on the bridge. Also on both, a personal preference here, I like the elec. gtr. up a bit more in the mix. Just a really nice bunch of vocals and great mixing you have here... I'd bet a Recording Magazine "Readers Tapes" submission wouldn't prove otherwise. ;)

Can you give specifics? mics, "just" Digi pres.? plug-ins? etc.

Thank you for the feedback and advice. It's nice to hear a positive review! Yeah I noticed the BGV's were a little hot too. My brother and I did all the backup vox so I guess I need to step back and listen to those a little more objectively. It's been really fun making this album with such great musicians. Everything was recorded with the Digi pres on an 002 rack. A pair of Rhode NT5's, AKG D112, and SM57 on the drums. The vocals were done with a Sterling Audio ST77 mike straight into the 002. Just using the stock PT8 plugins plus the music production toolkit plugs (TL Space was the main reverb used). The piano in "Long Time" is PT's MiniGrand. I'm also using Ozone 3 on the master fader. Mixing was done on my 003 factory.

If anyone else has any comments/suggestions please feel free to add. Thanks!

Hey guys... I thought you might find this interesting.

This past spring and summer, I scored 9 promo vids for The Discovery Channel/Latin America. They're now playing in all the various countries of Latin America, so it's ok to post them.

This is exactly as I submitted them, staight music to vid....pre-dialogue and video 'tightening up'.

The first 5 each had a theme....Adventure, Nature, Ingenuity, etc.

Adventure

Ingenuity

Nature

Culture

Mystery

These 4 pertained to The Discovery Channel's 15th Anniversary...

PALEO

HUMAN

SPACE

SCIENCE

Thanks for listening... .. -Roy

Just finished up Shadow Circus' 2nd record, Whispers and Screams.

Basics were recorded by Scott Norton at Headgear in Brooklyn. Everything else was tracked in a home studio by John Fontana (guitarist, keyboardist and main songwriter of the band). I mixed the record on my 002 LE system using a good amount of UAD plug-ins. Mastered by Will Quinnell at Sterling Sound. Co-produced by myself and John Fontana.

Pretty good song i don't have much experience with country music but here are my suggestions

expand the stereo image of drum-kit pan it accordingly to how would it sound if you where playing the drums or standing in the audience this goes for both songs

on Nashville baby there's 3 Guitars the combinations sound like there's always 1 electric alternating against the acoustic. spread them or close the stereo image on some. close the stereo image of the bass and really important use eq to cut few db arround 300hz or so and boost that to the kick drums to get more of the slap
and overall this project needs a bit more high end

Long time coming down the piano are to loud "even tho i'm a keyboardist as well i think they to hot tho"
Give every instrument is space in the mix
More High end on the overall mix

my email is [email protected] i will be more then happy to help out on the mixes
