Feature requests

Here's 2 things I think Digi should implement which would make things a lot easier:

1. Option for a single PAN knob on stereo tracks.

2. When when option/dragging insert fx, PT should be smart enough to copy the same settings to mono and stereo tracks and not give that annoying error.

Can anyone else relate to these issues?

How would it have to pan it then? If you move that single pan knob to -15, what would it mean? Left to -100 and right to +85, or both to -15, or left to -50 and right to +35.....

CAN'T DO IT !!!

How would you position your track in the stereo field without separate control of L R channels?

Works one way but not the other. There's a reason. PT can't guess what isn't 100% foolproof (which also answers to your #1 come to think of it...)

The way that Vienna Ensemble Pro does panning is quite cool. That's the only other way I could see it working.

One of the reason I left Logic was the single pan knob for stereo tracks, it forced to use the dirmix plugin for doing real stereo panning, at least until version 7.

Single pan knob wouldn't need numbers. You pan left and more of the signal is in the left channel and less is in the right. You pan right and more of the signal is in the right and less in the left. Simple. Pan is relative anyway. Every other daw on the marekt has a single pan knob on stereo tracks - why should PT be any different?

+1 - fully agree with this one.

Some more requests:

1) GUI re-design issues (I know). Plug-in windows take up too much space needlessly in PT8 - too much empty space on both sides of the actual plug-in window. The new buttons at the top of the plug-in window are not intuitive and it is difficult to find presets or save or copy settings. The small, hidden dialog box with the arrow is nearly impossible to find (as well as in other parts of the program such as the one for DSP cache). It seems like the functional buttons have been made really small to take up less space, but then blank space was added for no apparent reason.

2) Again with this one: Make every function undo-able. EVERY ONE. including moving plug-ins, changing outputs, muting tracks, etc. etc. Make the undo queue selectable, so that undoing an earlier action does not necessitate undoing everything that happened after the one you are undoing.

3) Make it harder to spread audio files among drives unintentionally as discussed in this thread. It seemed like the Digi rep did not understand the importance of doing this. Again, I see this as more of a bug fix than a feature request. Data is being lost, and more than half of the sessions I receive to mix from other studios are missing files.

The stereo tracks on Logic have a balance control, not a pan control.

Love from the Pedant.

PS Personally I think 2 pan controls are waaaaaaay more useful than one balance control.

Semantics (pan/balance). What we're asking for is having the OPTION of a single control, not taking away the dual controls PT has.
