I/0 ?
Hello. I am contemplating the purchase of a new Interface. I've been using the Audiophile 2496,(2 in/2 out) but it's time for a change to something with more functionality. I'm fed up with purchasing Avid's here today, gone tomrrow stuff and I've certainly had enough frustration with compatibility issues with some of their other products. I want something that is compatible with PT's9 right out of the box. No, for this to work, you will have to buy this! I'm curious about Motu products and specifically the Motu Audio Express. (6 in/ 6 out). The price is reasonable. I ask again. Is it compatible with Pro tools 9, period! Can anyone out there give good advice on this product? Thanks

Re: I/0 ?
If you looking for something along those same lines.....Terry Why do you really look into the MBOX Pro - It's firewire (I wouldn't want USB) and the quality of the unit compared with earlier units is really good........
as long as you don't need a ton of i/o it should be great for you. Isn't that Audiophile card you have really old???? and it still works with PT9 - That's great. |
Re: I/0 ?
Hey Terry, in a similar boat here and was considering the MOTU 828 Mk3, but I have read enough tales of the MOTU just not sounding very good, so I have turned towards some other options. I think your needs are not the same as mine(looking for 24 inputs here) so the Saffire Pro 40 might be worth a look. Or Maybe the RME ff400?

YYR123 and albee 1952. Thanks guys. I just tried to answer you both with a common reply but mistakenly left the screen and couldn't find my way back. Anyway, yyr123, if I might ask a "I should know by now" question. What are the benefits of firewire over usb? My pc is usb but while attempting to revive my Project Mix control surface,(which was a wate of time), I installed a firewire card so now I'm ready for either. Yeah, the Aidiophile 2496 has served me well but, as I said, it's very limited in functionality. I'll look into your recomendation.
albee1952, I to would love to have the 24 I/O with pro tools. However, I'm still working slowly with what I have. I do have the capability of 24 I/O with my Mackie 24/8 board and Alesis HD24 but rarely use more than 16. I'll check out your recommended device. I know that these forums are dedicated to Avid devices and users but It just seems like a waste of $$ to continue spending for something that I'm not sure will still be around next year! But then who is to say that won't happen with MOTU ? I realize that is the nature of the computer world. Thanks guys. |
Re: I/0 ?
+1 for the Saffire Pro 40, you get a lot of bang for your buck. The router software (MixControl) is one of it's biggest plus points - hugely versatile and zero latency.

MOTU sounds like dull bath water to me. Great alternatives above...
