HELP: Changing buffer size in CoreAudio Manger? (SEE PIC)

Hi there,

I'm trying to increase my buffer size on my Mbox's CoreAudio Manger but it's grayed out (all audio applications are closed including pro tools).

The Digidesign CoreAudio Manager settings are:

Digidesign HW: Mbox
Status: Not Conected (HW in use)
Channels: N/A
Attched clients: 0
Buffer Size: 512 (grayed out )

PIC here:

Thanks in advance:-)

It looks like we're experiencing the same problem with the core audio drivers. Have you ever had applications not close out completely?

I rebooted and attempted to change this, but had no luck. I'll repair permissions, reboot and let you know if it worked.

Buffer size in PT le has a lot to do with your system's capabilities. If you have the USB mBox you aren't going to be allowed to set the buffer size to 4k. USB just can't handle the load.

If you have firewire, then you should be able to at least go between 128 (or whatever the lowest setting is) and 2k.

MBox should have a knob on the front (my old mBox 1 did) that lets you monitor between inbound signal and outbound signal at your discresion, to alleviate the need to drop your buffer size to 128. Since the whole point of a low buffer size is for tracking, and a larger buffer size when you are mixing and need the latency for your computer to keep up with all off the processes.

Anyway, more information would be nice. What is it currently set at? What Mbox do you have? Cables used? Harddrive used? Cable for hard drive? Type of computer with specs... version of PT? Maybe even current track count!

Re: HELP: Changing buffer size in CoreAudio Manger ?

Thanks for the info :)

I put a short gear list in my signature.

I'm using firewire 800 drives with a macbook pro 2.4 + 2 gig ram, the mbox 2 pro is firewire 400.
I'll try the new update now.

Thanks

The new upgrade did not solve this issue :(

Just to be clear, I can change the buffer in PT to whatever I want but cannot adjust it in the CoreAudio Manger as it is grayed out.

Re: HELP: Changing buffer size in CoreAudio Manger ?

The Core Audio Manager is not for Mbox 2 Series devices - the Mbox 2 Pro buffer size would be changed in the host application. For devices that use the Sound control panel to determine their input/output, there is no option to change the buffer size.
