I'm throwing two up here for review. I co-produced, engineered, and performed on them, but I am not the artist. I did however get the artist's permission to post these (as he looks forward to any comments you guys might have). Anyway, I could talk all night about the sessions we had making these tracks. It's a lot of fun when the artist has a good image of what he wants, yet is more than willing to experiment. It was crazy fun.

rockrev,

Yeah. The unmistakable sound of talent. Who is this guy? Okay, so for SWJAC, I have three comments:

(1) Awesome song.
(2) Every sound has distortion, and I like that, but my ears got hungry for some kind of occasional distortionless "reference", I think anything would do, something to remind the listener that the lo fi vocal and instrument effects are intentional.
(3) Did you try killing the beat and/or bass during the "cage people like animals" sample following the first chorus? Is that too cliche?

Re: Crazy and Fun Sessions!

(1) Thanks!
(2) Well, we messed with the distortion and decided that the choruses were the only parts that we wanted distorion-less (listen to the L-R vocals on the chorus sections). I actually like all the distortion on this one, but thanks for the suggestion.
(3) Killing the beat is definitely worth a shot. I'll try it.

Thanks again for your comments.

too bad i have nothing worthy of contributing to your list Chris

Whatever man...I personally really dig 'Poisoning the Monk'...I don't know what you're talking about "not worthy". Mellow juxtaposing a serious under/overtone to the piece.

Rockrev,

I'm diggin' 'she was just another criminal'. That's some fantastic sound-design going on throughout that thing. There are a couple of extremely minor changes I'd might of tried...but are purely a matter of personal preference...and therefore not really worth mentioning. Great mix and master here. I could actually see something like this in a movie soundtrack...

Thanks Chris. I really had fun working with NH3. Oh, I'll be uploading the radio edit of "SWJA:Criminal" in a few minutes (I think you guys will enjoy the creative ways we bleeped things out). NH3 has given me permission to submit it to the "Best of the DUC CD." I'll be in touch.

Thanks again.
