Usb 2 Extension 25m/75feet to D-Link Bluetooth?
 

A studio replaced a G4/933 with a double 2 Ghz G5 PCI/X and now the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard from Apple isn´t be found (mostly) anymore.
Configuration is: 5x5m cable extenders USB 1 to DLink Bluetooth adapter with Mac wireless keyboard and mouse.
My Mac dealer says it could be that the extensions are working with USB 1 instead of 2 or that the new USB port doesn´t support that long distances.
Another rumour is that DLink isn´t working with OS 10.4 anymore.
BTW the cable mouse and keyboard is working.
Does anybody has a configuration (with DLink) that is working?

Well, this should be easy to troubleshoot. If you plug the DLink directly into the computer without all the extenders, does it work? If it does, then you need to look at a better extension solution (most likely a CAT5 type extender from Gefen or Network Technology). Five USB extenders (especially if they were the self-powered variety) plugged into each other is bound to be somewhat flaky.

OK I can first try if the DLink works directly with the G5 at all, but in the end the studio needs a 25m working solution.
Since the 5 times extender solution worked 2 years without any problem on the G4 (on a selfpowered hub) I need to know if somebody has the same with USB2 extenders (and maybe a selfpowered USB2 hub in between) or which CAT5 solution really works with a DLink and the Mac mouse and keyboard.
Sorry but there is no time for any try and error.
And Apple Germany is no help at all!!!

Hello,

I successfully use a wireless apple keyboard via DLink bluetooth USB + wired kensington trackball mouse (I disliked the responsiveness of a wireless mouse) - both are plugged in to a Gefen 4 port Cat5 USB (1.1) extender which runs 25m to a G5. Works perfectly.
