Omni Mic Pre Weird Behaviour
 

Hi,

My omni is doing something very weird.. The channel 1 mic pre gain seems to be intermittent... as i turn the gain knob up, one db at a time, the actual gain amount jumps about drastically. for instance - at +21db its quiet, same at +22 & +23 then when it hits +24 the actual gain amount jumps up by about 20db, then it goes back down at +25db gain. it keeps doing this all the way up to maximum gain... hope that makes sense??

Ive reset the omni & re-installed the firmware (2.10). Its a revision A unit running Pro tools HD2 10.3.7 on a 2010 Mac Pro. It still functions like this without pro tools being loaded..

The mic pre on channel 2 functions properly.

any ideas at all? im at a loss...

Since the preamp is a stepped attenuator style, it sounds like something is physically wrong. The relays aren't stepping properly or the logic circuitry controlling them is flawed. I would have a tech look at it.

I'm not too keen on spending £60 for 1 call of phone support..
