Hey archtop,
You play well... nice sound too. Do you do your volume fades with your right little finger, or use a vol pedal? I would guess that's a Les Paul? or...? ...don't think it's a Strat, but I'm just guessing.
I would really like to hear some more of your stuff, so please be sure and post anything as you go... thanks, Roy

I think the best way for me to get feedback, is to start commenting on other people's stuff.

I realize that, I'll start tonight, I can't really listen here at work.

all right all right, ive got one up, it's been a while, and the seasons a changing.. so I wrote a little tune in honor of this..

SUMMER ..
sorry aussies. i know it's winter over there. (right??)

just d/l it and keep it till november comes around.

although the song can relate to anyone entering summertime, this one is specifically about how me and my buds used to just take off and drive to the beach (galveston, TX)
it's close, and it's hot, and it's time to get drunk in the sand and play guitar all night...

anyone else ever enjoyed times like these??
if not, keep the song in heavy rotation in your playlist, and you can get a pretty close feeling to doing all that..

Of course Im a student, so summer is a whole lot different for peeps like me than for those of you who actually have a career.. sorry to get you excited for nothing.. you gotta work all summer

wooho, i think for next song, i should write about how much i like girls...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

badperson, I just listened to "Sidewalk". Nice groove. I can't really comment too much on the mix, as our Internet computer has only dinky little speakers, but it seemed your great vox got a little buried in the mix. I also think a few fills with the snare would really enhance the piece, too. Hope you don't mind my $.02.

badperson 06-10-2003 02:39 PM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

thanks, keep the feedback coming. Yeah, I'm not sure about the vox. Thanks for describing them as "great", I think that's pretty charitible on your part, though. I'd actually like to work with a real singer, I'm hoping I get a chance to produce an artist in a studio doing a couple of these tunes someday.

Anyway, I used an ntk for the vox. I'll try a new mix and bring them out more.

Do you all compress vox during tracking? I have never been able to not use compression on a vocal (mixing or tracking).

badperson,
Just downloaded the 3 to a folder and will listen a little later... probably tonight because things are about to get busier here. I'm sorry if I've missed any posts of yours...of course it's not intentional when I do. When I'm in a session(which is most of the time), I take short breaks to stay creatively fresh...sometimes I miss posts though. I'm looking forward to hearing your stuff.
thanks, Roy

What's your vox chain, and I'm assuming your using a pod?

Nice work.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

badperson,

Well, I like all three songs. Nice groove on 'sidewalk'...man, I like your voice ...nice laid back quality to it, and I admire soloists that don't use vibrato. Many 'trained' singers I've worked with use vibrato on every thing, which irks me. The wah guitar on 'better for me' is nice... My favorite song of the 3 is 'Cameback'...very nice, man...cool harmonies.
There are some places where the timing could tighten up(as I'm sure you're aware), but these are really good songs.
Thanks for letting me listen. ~Roy

Gene,

Nice song - good choice of sounds. You're arrangements are gettting better and better.

Badperson - I like the vocals - very distinctive. Also, I like the style of the guitar solo on "Waving Goodbye". Very cool.

Da BassTard - Your latest one is great. You have a knack for this electronica thing.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

you guys are all very supportive of my singing, lol!!!

I'll probably get a little better, but I hope to have a real singer cut them at some point.

Also, roy, did your feedback about the time refer to vocals or playing?

I'm still growing in terms of capturing the energy of a live performance on tape. That's the biggest challenge for me, especially in terms of playing natuarally to a click, that kind of thing.

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Sorry I didn't respond to all of the feedback concerning the first track I posted. I was out of town. Thanks for the input on the track. It definitely needs some drum changes which I have a drummer working on now. That was the first track I ever wrote.

Da Bastard, Here you go. Check out my next one, intentional and let me know what you guys think.

The synth in the beginning needs to be changed b/c it sounds a little eighties, so keep that in mind. I wrote, sang, recorded, mixed, produced, blah, blah, blah....I did everything in this track. It is my second track. Let me know what you think.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">correcto, i have a POD PRO, straight into the 001 for the most part, although I doubled the rhythm with direct and my NTK on my marshall..
do you think the rhythm is too lound, or maybe the bass..??)

my vox are NTK to a DBX ProVocal, on which i have a bit of compression, some reverb and some eq. Don't remember the settings, i set it when i got and used that setting ever since. I just add or take away reverb for different songs.
after provocal it goes to 001.

and oh yeh, it's all me..
drums take time, but it's worth it, it's all keyboard though, if you were wonderin.. (okay it doesn't sound that real.. but Im getting better)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hi bp,
I listened again, and these songs really grow on you... The 'timing' I referred to is simply a couple of rhythm guitar places that fell from the groove, that's all. One is in 'Sidewalk'...near 'Lay there on the sidewalk for everyone to see', and also a little in the solo in 'cameback'. But, these are tiny and easily fixable. The important thing is that overall they sound great, and indeed, your vocal is part of the reason. You have a style all your own, and you should stick with it. I really like these songs very much, and appreciate you letting me hear em. thanks, Roy

metaltim,
'Summer' is cool...just straight ahead fun music, and great lyrics... the guitars sound good too. It reminds me of a 2-week gig we had once in Daytona, at a club right on the beach. There were 6 guys in the band, and we had 3 free condos(owned by the club) to party in. Just wake up, swim in the ocean a while, then go play all night, for two weeks.
Sounds like you've done the same thing... Thanks for the listen. -Roy

My band recently re-recorded a couple of songs off our first disc to try and up the production quality and modernize them a bit mix wise.

Hope you enjoy!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">wow sounds like fun.. iv'e never done that, but a friend of mine who plays solo shows, he brought his stuff out to the beach one weekend, another friend had a regular plug in his truck, so we plugged in the PA, guitar and bass, and just jammed all night, there was a good size crowd by nitetime..

that's basically what i was writing the song about.. its always fun to bring back memories like that.
