The last movie I edited gave me this problem. I opened the movie in QT pro and exported it as an H.264. Best quality, multi-pass, key frame every frame.

No more 2 sec delay.

I was surprised this worked. I thought H.264 would take more processor power. It brought the data rate down by over 2000 kbits/sec. Maybe that was the key.

I posted this on the DUC and of course Digi support responded that it's not a Digi problem but an Apple problem. OK, fine. Then why did exporting the picture to a different format fix the slow down?

Something to try.

Interesting.
Glad you solved it, but as a post pro user I've never heard of the "QT 2 sec delay issue". What problem were you having?
What codec were you using?

best,

The problem is that when you press play, there is a 2 sec or so delay before anything happens in ProTools. If you take the video track offline ProTools works fine.

Apparently it is a problem with ProTools 7.4.1 and QuickTIme 7.4. Digi support says it is an Apple issue. I have had this problem with earlier versions of ProTools as well. I think it was 7.2 LE, I'm not sure. It was a while ago.

The Quicktime I had a problem with this time was a Motion JPEG. Most of the movies I get from this company are MJPEG and I've never had a problem. This movie had a bitrate of over 7000 kbits/sec. Maybe that is the issue.

Since switching to 7.4.1 this is the first movie I've had a problem with. I've edited 4 other projects on my new system without this issue.

I don't know if I have solved it. I hope someone else tries my suggestion and confirms it.

Vince
