Free Protools crashes Windows 98 every time.
Well, this is awesome. I spent 2 hours installing Windows 98 after XP, just to sample Pro Tools free version, and it won't even boot up. First time it hung on ininitalizing midi or something like that when it was starting, and froze the computer. Second time it got past that part and froze the machine with the digidesign wllpaper logos in the background, and the third time it rebooted my machine.
This sucks. |

How do you mean, installing Windows 98 after XP? Did you put 98 on a separate partition, or did you do a complete reformat/reinstall, or ???

Um, it shouldn't really matter for this question, but yeah it's installed on a separate partition.

Re: Free Protools crashes Windows 98 every time.
I don't know your level of computing skills, but this might help. I had the same problem for the longest time. It turned out that the motherboard drivers I (forgot to at first) installed were obsolete. Downloading the latest motherboard drivers (chipset drivers) solved the problem. It could be that Windows XP uses different drivers than Windows 98 and there might even be different drivers yet for Windows ME. Search for the latest drivers by motherboard/chipset AND operating system and install those.

Re: Free Protools crashes Windows 98 every time.
Also make sure that you're using 98SE and not the first edition (aka Gold).
Don't use ME. A gig of RAM for 98/ME is a lot. You'll need fixes. Get the unofficial 98SE service pack. Google is your friend. |
Re: Free Protools crashes Windows 98 every time.
if i recall right the combination of windows 98 and 1 gb of ram was too much.....
Reduce the RAM to 512 MB and try again..... |
