10.3.7 randomly deleting files

Been having an issue with v10 deleting files of its own accord.

If I delete a file, PT will usually delete another file along with it, it's easy for me to reproduce, delete a file from the pool and some other file will randomly disappear too. It will be removed from the audio folder too.

Any idea what's causing this?

If you delete a file from the "pool" (assuming you mean "clip list"),
and this file is a whole file audio - and - there are also clips (parts of this whole file audio) that reference to that audio,
those clips will be deleted naturally, too.
If you delete "Audio 1_01" , "Audio 1_01-01" and "Audio 1_01-02" (and so on) will be deleted, too.

10.3.7 randomly deleting files

Hi, I'm talking about discreet files, not clips, no references to other files, each one is an individual piece of music.

Are any edit or mix/edit groups active ?
If so, then selecting a clip in the clip list, all clips on any track that is grouped and resides within that selection will be selected (maybe unnoticable, because not in the scrolled view of the clip list) ,
will be deleted by cmd+shift+b.

Not that I'm aware of.
A typical scenario for me is this:
Import a video and it's audio track.
Import several pieces of composed music to align, usually on only 2 stereo tracks.

When I'm done, I'll open the project window (alt-O) and select the video audio track (which doesn't need to be delivered with my project) - type backspace.

Protools prompts me to remove or delete. Either of those options will often cause one or more of the music tracks to vanish from the clip list and the hard drive…

This also happens if I have to delete a piece of music from the project to import a newer version etc.

No more ideas, why that happens :o.
No idea, if a PT uninstall/install would help, or trashing prefs/databases.

In your case, I would test (after backing up the audio files folder) if deleting the files directly in the edit window or in the cliplist does not randomly deletes any unconnected other file.

Out of curiosity : you need to deliver a session, not a mix ?

Well, thanks for trying to help Joachim, appreciate it. Guess I'll try the dreaded uninstall sometime.

I deliver sessions to final mix, I compose the music and place completed pieces for the final mix guy so he can bring the tracks into his session with the correct placement.

Re: 10.3.7 randomly deleting files

Try SAVE SESSION COPY IN. This will not save video file unless box is checked. Check the All Audio Files box. It will take all audio files used in your session, from whatever drive or source, and copy them to the Audio File Folder. Do a SAVE AS. After you have done this select any audio files in Clip Bin that you don't want. Use the drop down menu of the Clip Bin or right click one of the selected files and click Clear. This should remove only those files that are selected. Once you have this session the way you want it. SAVE and you should be ready to ship or upload this session free of unwanted Audio Files.
