midi timing erratic even with click on LE 7.3

Hi all,

If I open a brand new session, then create a click track, the timing is all over the place..not a subtle issue, but brutally off.

Playing back audio works fine.

1. I am running XP with SP3 on a Core 2 duo based machine. SO this means I have the dual core hot fixes mentioned on the digidesign site...so no that doesn't help.

2. I have down loaded the latest 7.3.1 etc version.

3. I have trashed my preferences.

Any other suggestions?

Greg

I noticed something here the other day, which is probably unrelated to your particular problem.

When I imported a midi file into my fresh session, the timing was all over the place. If I added the midi by drag and drop, it worked fine.

I had this problem before. You need to be at a low buffer. Im sure you are though. The problem in my case was related to using mismatched RAM. All sticks must be same size and same speed. I had 2.5gb in mine. The minute i took the 512 stick out problem solved. immediately.

Have tried different buffer settings....no joy....
RAM is new and matching (PC is new)...no joy...

Any other thoughts?

Have you tried all the other suggestions in the General Troubleshooting thread yet?

Hi DIGI Support....

I am now desperate...

I have:
  1. All suggestions on the trouble shooting (twice)
  2. Loaded latest bios etc
  3. Uninstalled protools and all plugins
  4. Reinstalled protools 7.3 le with no extra plugins
  5. Opened a new session, and loaded the click track
  6. A one bar loop with only the click track jumps and stutters dramatically

Sandra list is below. I am at the point of contamplating getting new motherboard etc ???

Note that I can load a large and complicated audio session with lots of plugins and automation and it runs just fine...this is just a midi timing problem.

Again, I am desperate for suggestions as at the moment I can't work.

Re: midi timing erratic even with click on LE 7.3

Ive got this problem too. This isnt the first time, I also had it on a different computer, same version of pro tools (7.3) same operating system (xp).

I had solved it but cant remember how, I still have pro tools on the other computer working fine. Ive compared the midi drivers, the none working one uses diomidi.dll under legecy audio drivers which isnt working properly, the working one has digidesign midi drivers (which I dont understand as they are the same version of pro tools??).

I found this article http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...1&itemid=15394, which tells you how to remove these driver, but has no information why and how to replace with the Digidesign Mbox 2 drivers.

Re: midi timing erratic even with click on LE 7.3

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions, but:
  • I have the mbox drivers installed: and,
  • The problem happens even with the click track, which is an internal to protools instrument, ie can't see how it would access the drivers
  • Basically it behaves as if there was a crazy and randomly varying tempo map in the background, which was only affects midi!

    Any other suggestions??

Re: midi timing erratic even with click on LE 7.3

Ive spent a few hours getting my drivers setup the same way as the working version and that doesnt change a thing.

Ive noticed that sometimes it wont play at all until pressing the play button a few times, some notes will play others wont, sometimes it tries to catch up by playing the missed notes very quickly. Sometimes it will just play one note, then maybe later sometime, even if the sequence is over it will play a few more.

Ive looked everywhere for an answer and seen nothing, Ive remove protools and reinstalled, installed the update, just got the same result.

Ive really enjoyed working in pro tools but Im getting to the end of my patience, no VSTs, expensive plugins and a this crazy problem. There is the option of the $150 upgrade to version 8, but theres no guarantee I wont get this problem still.

Frustration!!

Re: midi timing erratic even with click on LE 7.3

Do not update to 8 to solve this problme. What midi interface are you using? any hardware stuff? if not jus tthe 002 what are you clocking to?

if you have a digimax or an external device like an octopre or something coming in via SPDIF, make sure to set the clock to it, and not the internal clock. This can also create huge problems.
