Digidesign PRE

Digidesign PRE - What do you think of it?

how does it sound/perform/....

I need a 8 Ch pre for my HD rig to come and would like to hear your opinions.

Other alternatives I know by now would be Focusrite Octopre...

Thanks, Andi

I know. Sorry.
Did some searches, and found everything, but nothing about this.

If anyone would be kind enough to post a direct link, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you very much!

do a search here:

gearslutz there is a thread on the digi pre in the high end forum.

i used it once when i was in someone else's studio...and it was OK. not fantastic!!!! but not bad. this guy bought them becasue he wanted the shortest distance between the mic and the pre (the lowest voltage portion of the chain.) his pre was in the booth. and he controlled it from software. for me, i prefer my ISA 110's, my Neve Portico's or my Great River's, or my UA 610's....

I have 2. Wish I had another. Very flat. Let me do the coloring.

Seems the biggest treat regarding analog pres is the desirable flavor of harmonic distortion many produce.

What means are you using to do that kind of coloring in the Digital world?

Hi there

I really like them very flat very big headroom very clean = big drums

They do not add much harmonic distortion so aren't a colouring tool but if you want a clean big and dare I say it American sound are v good

Only down side they step up 3db a time and every 6dbs they click audibly so you can't really ride the gain but with 24 bit recording and the head room that allows is that a real problem.

Good value really have you ever used a Euphonix S5 or Cs3000/2000 kind of similar sounding.

Cheers
