MTRX Mono SUM function for DADmom question
Would appreciate if anyone might describe how to add a MONO sum function in the DADman Monitor profile. (I just tried to add it, but somehow all my DADmom settings got erased, and it took a while to recreate everything.)

In the Monitor Profile Fold Down tab... right click and create a new matrix. Then select stereo as input and mono as output. You have to manually put the level values into the boxes (this is the step that confounded me for a bit).
Oh, and I do note.. save a lot. DADMan would randomly hang on me.. and all changes gone. So I am pretty quick on the save after that lesson repeated a bunch. I'd like to know if there is any way to disable the ref button in DADMan (or maybe someone has a tip here). If you are using self powered monitors, the output level is being controlled by my Mom box (which is generally very low). If you hit ref, it sets signal to 0... ah which gets your attention in an ear splitting what the hell happened type way. I assigned the ref switch on Mom to select the Mono folddown... so no accidents from the hardware. But if you hit ref in DADMan, not good. |

Thank you. I'll try it.
Re the REF button you mentioned, when I lost my monitor settings last night, I must have hit the REF button because my head got blasted by full volume from the speakers. I couldn't stop it so rushed around to quickly unplug the monitors. I hope that never happens again. My REF button doesn't light up when pressed though, I'll have to read up on this... |

I have trims in the monitor profile so that REF won't blast me. -24dB in my case. |

Oh, thank you! That works perfectly. I am incredibly impressed with the capabilities/flexibility of the MTRX/DADMan/MOM combo. |

Re: MTRX Mono SUM function for DADmom question
Now that I have the Mono button, and when engaged the perceived loudness is about 4 db louder than with stereo, by ear, so I've attenuated it by -4 db. Is there a recommended number for this?

Your question sent me off to read about Pan Law. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_law. Also, found this very interesting quote in this forum conversation... https://forums.prosoundweb.com/index.php?topic=2682.0. "If there is content common to both channels and it is in relative phase in both channels, then the resulting sum would be 6dB greater than a single channel. If both channels have the same level and random correlation then the resulting overall summed mono signal level would be 3dB greater. If the content is in only one channel then the resulting mono sum would be the same as the signal level of that channel. If there is content common to both channels and the two signal are 180 degrees out of phase from one another then the resulting sum would 0. So 6dB may be more compensation than is needed for many situations but should represent compensating for the maximum potential summation."I see suggestions that range from -1.5 to -6. Before your post, I had set mine to -6dB. |
