preamp help. grace or sytek??

Hey Guys,

I was hoping someone could give me an educated opinion on which preamp to buy. I'm looking at the Grace model 101 and the sytek 4 channel. I will be mostly using it for foley and adr recording. Both seem to be high gain low noise units. Anyone have hands on experience with both? If so, let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

John

I have tyhe sytek mpx-4ai w/ burr browns on 3 and 4. I have used this unit on vocals and it sounds great on drum overheads and string instruments.

It has worked flawlessly for over a year now of day to day work. I'll purchase one more to run through my 8 channel converter later this year.

I'm sorry but I haven't used the grace unit.

good luck!

Thanks for the reply. If you're buying another one that's enough of an endorsement for me.

Hey John, how are things going. It sounds like you are keeping busy. I haven't had any personal experience, but I've heard a lot of good things about the Grace preamps. I know they are used a lot in post. I'm not real sure about the Sytek pres, but from the sound of things, it may be of more use in music, because of the coloration. There's a comparison CD you can check out at:

Good luck!

Hey Chris,

Things are good on my end, how about with you? Thankfully the last few months have been very busy and I've worked on some fun projects. Thanks for the CD suggestion, it looks great. Take care of yourself, and hopefully I'll see you soon.

John
