12.8.1 too many errors - rolled back to 12.8
This is the first update (12.8.1) that I've ever had so many issues with.
A little laggy, GUI glitches, midi timing and playback issues and a substantial amount of 'out of nowhere' issues... Video stops playing (internal using monitor) and constant 'cpu' errors. Fortunately I number and keep pervious versions of PT in my apps folder so after giving 12.8.1 a fair amount of time to work correctly, I went back to 12.8.0 which was working great for me and now 2 hours in, is working perfectly. Maybe 12.8.2 will resolve the issues in 12.8.1 that 12.8.0 never had. :) I didn't post this to start a thread of Avid insults so be constructive with comments please. |

How did you performed the upgrade? Did you do a clean install and thrashed the preferences etc? Mine didn't run smoothly until I did the second.

I'm usually the guy who never has issues. This one just happened to bite me. LOL! No problem though, 12.8.0 is rock solid for me so I'll just park it there for a while. |

All I do is record/mix music. The only VI I use is XPand II for drum tracks. This was a clean install. I had just formatted my system drive and performed all the recommended optimizations. |
Re: 12.8.1 too many errors - rolled back to 12.8
I work at a top sports network and we had gone to 12.8. I was amazed to learn of 2 bugs fairly quickly. One is the assignment of multiple outputs to multiple tracks - it was no longer possible and when doing audio post involving a ton of stems this is a big one. It is mind boggling to me that this one slipped through Alpha testing and this is pretty indicative of lack of resources at Avid in my opinion as this has been a basic key stroke for as long as I can remember.
The other bug was a resource bug. When deactivating a track it would randomly make other tracks deactivated before crashing - every time. I think this was a problem in how PT was accessing DSP on the HDX card as it seemed tracks with similar/same plug were the ones being deactivated before the crash. Glad to see both of these are fixed in 12.8.1. Again - in my mind it is mind boggling that these 2 bugs made it into a released version - troubling to say the least. Though it does kind of go hand in hand with the 4.75 stock price!!! |

I use a slew of VIs. After installing 12.8.1 (dirty install) and trashing Prefs and Catalog/Database files I loaded a large session which pushes the CPU. It rolled fine. Graphics almost seem quicker. It's subtle if there's any difference. I did get one video engine has stopped error. Good lord those never seem to die.
