Random static noise upon playback

i'm running PT 7.3.1 with an mbox 2 pro on an intel imac running os10.4.10. all of a sudden i'm getting random static noises upon playback of any given session. i'm certain it's not a peaking issue as it never happens in the same place twice. any ideas?

try unplugging the power lead and reinsert restart pro tools again

I thought it was Pro Tools struggling to playback. I usually get that on my voice playback just before an error box appears to tell me that I've hit the limit of my setup.

definitely not the issue here as there are a couple of sessions that only have 4 tracks on them

USb lead to MBox
