I have a guitar solo done on a Takamine guitar and it's slightly twangy - can that be remedied with EQ? I have pro Tools 11 with the usual EQ plug ins available including channel Strip etc. If you could put a screen shot on it would be useful, please.

What do you want a screenshot of/for? A preset isn’t going to help as it’s highly dependent on the source material.

Just grab the EQ7 plugin included in Pro Tools, set a narrowish Q on one of the mid bands, boost it and start sweeping the frequency spectrum until you start emphasising the problematic frequency. Once you’ve found it, invert the gain so your cutting not boosting and you’ll start to reduce the unwanted tone. I would also open up the Q otherwise you start to get a nasal like quality if it’s too sharp. If required, use a secondary band.

At the end of the day, you need to use your ears. You’re already halfway there in that you’ve identified something you don’t like. Now you just have to find it and try to correct it.

One last thing, once you’re happy with the EQ, play it in context to the rest of the mix. You might find the processing doesn’t need to be as drastic when other instruments are added as they may mask some of the offending frequencies.

Also some harmonic processing like Sonnox Inflator may tame the problem a little, but what he ^ said is the first trick always.

What they said^^^, but you have the option(depending on the player's availability) to re-record the acoustic with a microphone(which almost always will sound better):o

Just dropped by to say that I had a big, long, detailed question written out to try and get help getting rid of some unwanted sounds in slapped strings on an upright bass and happened to find this and it answered my question.
