EuCon crashes overnight, every night
 

Never fails. Sit down at the computer in the morning and EuCon is frozen. Unresponsive. I have to force quit.

EuCon 2022.4 (most recent) w/ ProTools 2022.6 and OS 12.4 on a Mac Studio Ultra.

I have the suggested system preference settings (prevent computer from automatically sleeping) and the monitor is set to never sleep. I do have a screensaver which begins after an hour of inactivity but that's never been an issue in the past.

The controller (iPad, Amazon Fire and Avid A1) are all running the latest versions of their software/firmware.

Anyone know what could be causing this predictable, nightly crash?

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you referring to "wake for network access" in the Energy Saver system preferences? I don't see anything in the Network-->Ethernet preference panel.

The "wake for network access" option is checked. But my computer isn't set to sleep at any time.

Sorry, I realize OSX only control s this from sleep(I'm on a PC which has it separate) One thing that is known to cause this is App Nap. Try disabling it for EuControl and MCClient.

Thanks Eddie. Neither EuCon nor MC Client gives the option of preventing App Nap when I Get Info on those apps.

However, they do both have the Get Info option: Open using Rosetta. It isn't checked for either. I'd be surprised if it's related to that.

Avid Control was crashing on me occasionally in Apple Native mode. Opening Eucon in Rosetta mode seems to keep Avid Control running indefinitely. But that's not a long-term solution.

I think this is different, he's saying EuControl? It would be a good data point though to test running in Rossetta mode and see if it helps. (We do see this issue and are working on it)

I've been testing it for weeks, natively and also w/ Rosetta, but nothing is improved. It still crashes often.

EuCon is still version 2022.4, so no updates in quite a while. I can't be the only person this is happening to.

Btw. I don't have that problem on macOS 10.14.6, with an old MacPro.

OK, so its overnight. Something must be happening during the night.....is there a virus checker running? Updates? Its hard to tell. If you collect the logs(from the EuControl Icon) that may help.

No virus software. No auto updates. I keep the system pretty slim and without much happening automatically. The only thing that happens overnight is: 1) the screensaver comes on after an hour of inactivity, 2) I turn my monitor off.

I noticed today that EuCon actually froze during the day -- not overnight -- and all that I'd done was turn the monitor off. When I came back an hour later, EuCon was frozen. I've had this monitor for a couple years without issue, though the computer is new.

I'd be happy to check the logs. Where can I find them? I wasn't sure what you meant by "from the EuControl Icon."

The EuControl app crashes. When I click the EuControl icon in my dock it doesn't respond. Hitting Option-Command-Escape shows that EuControl isn't responding and I have to force quite.

This is useful info. We draw the OLED screens in an off window. Some have seen this as with 3 screens it sometimes appears. I wonder if turning the monitor off is causing issues with this. I'll try and reproduce here first. How many monitors do you have?

One computer monitor and one TV (as an extended desktop, not a mirror of the primary monitor). The TV is typically turned off.

It hasn't crashed these past two days, and I've been turning the monitor off as usual.

One thing that's potentially different: the Amazon Fire, which I use on top of my S1, has been turned off. I think. I noticed just now that it was off, so maybe it's been off the entire two days and that's played a role in the lack of crashes...?

I'll make sure the Fire is on tonight and see how it goes tomorrow and the next day.

Can you first try with the tablet on.....then if it starts crashing again try running EuControl in Rosetta mode and report back. If it doesn't crash in Rosetta mode then we know of this issue.

I've kept the Fire tablet on for the past few days now and not experienced a crash. My other habits are the same: turning the monitor off regularly, keeping the iPad turned on (it's also running the Control app -- the Fire is piggybacked on top of the S1 whereas the iPad is configured as a 2nd device in EuControl).

The only thing that has changed recently is an OS update (to 12.5 from the previous version of Monterey) and last week Avid Link updated ProTools to a newer build of 2022.7.0.

EuCon has been crashing for me since 2022.4. It happens all day and overnight. Like I've said before, Rosetta helps but it's still far from perfect. When I reach for a button or fader, there's a 50/50 chance that it will work. This is all since getting a Mac studio Ultra.https://duc.avid.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

If it's that bad, then the logs will help. Please use the Collect logs option from the EuControl menu and upload them somewhere and send me a PM with link. Others(and our testers) do not see it like that, so there must be something else up on your system. I presume you have tried a full uninstall, reboot and reinstall, inc. checking remove all prefs?

Edit: If this all started since getting the Mac Studio.....did you do a migrate? This has known issues.

Right click the EuControl notification icon to show its menu. Its one of the items.

I have to say though... I've still not had a EuCon crash since upgrading the OS to 12.5.1. Seems that that took care of whatever was causing the issue.

Sorry, I'm just now seeing this.

I don't see "collect logs" in the Eucontrol menu.

I reluctantly and regretfully did a clean install. haha. Everyone here said I was having performance issues because I initially migrated. Funny enough, everything behaved exactly the same after spending several hours installing my ridiculous collection of plugins. But.... Eucon actually worked great when running the system from my migration. Since clean installing everything I've had constant issues. I keep hoping an update will be released and take care of it!

I've uninstalled/reinstalled multiple times.

No change here with latest Monterey and IOS.

There is no update to fix this as it's not a EUCON issue (other than the having to run EuControl in Rosetta which we are working on). If you are not seeing the Collect Logs from the EuControl notification icon menu then you must be running a very old version of EuControl.

You had constant issues after the migration too, which is why you did the clean install. If problem persist after a clean install then you have deeper issues and you need someone to take a look at that computer in general. Very little useful data related the issue is being offered outside of the quest to prove that there was nothing wrong with the migration, though, very clearly, quite a lot was wrong, and still is.

You have people here who could actually fix the issues. Cut the games and allow them to help find the culprit. I can tell you that most have simply stopped responding to your complaints because you're unwilling to do anything about it.

You were one of the people arguing with me about clean installing. I'm not playing games, once again I'm simply sharing my experience and hoping for a solution.

My issues were only performance issues after the migration, but they weren't issues that were solved by reinstalling everything. Sessions from my 2020 iMac could not play on the studio ultra. There has been some improvement after recent pro tools updates though. I'm now able to play sessions with similar routing/processing.

I was looking in the menu at the top left of the eucon application, not the Notification icon menu on the top right of the menu bar. That's where I was confused. Now that I know where to find it, I'll get it to you now, although I don't know if I should wait until right after a crash. It's been sitting idle for the last few hours.
