Confused by the Klangfreund LUFS meter

Hi! Anyone familiar with this one? Despite the help section, i don't really understand it. I am only interested in the LUFS and the true peak, so which one of all these meters should i look at? Wich one is the LUFS? Screenshot below. Thanx https://1drv.ms/u/s!AicUKOG8nZ_IhuN-gi2YR-8saQfZPA

Guess you want to know the LUFS integrated long-term value. That's what he "I" stands for. The TP value is clearly shown above. However I don't know what the fader to the right and the "Adjust to" are doing in this meter,

To be honest i'm not sure...but i asked a mastering engineer what volume he wish the tracks to be in when i send them to him. And he said around -16 db LUFS and maximum -3 db true peak. I kinda wish the meter was more simple....i know there are some meters who says only "LUFS" and no further details:confused: But i guess it's the "I" i should focus on then?

Hi,

There’s no need to send a track for mastering at -16 Lufs or -3db TP. That is nonsense! As long as the TP isn’t reaching -0 DBFS or peaking or hitting clip then everything is fine. Everyone is working with floating point bit rate now so absolutely no need to worry about levels or targets for pre masters. Just make a great mix and don’t send with any limiting exciters or wideners etc. If you’re using bus comp and EQ and you’re confident it’s doing a good job then that’s fine.

The ME can simply adjust the level to what ever they wants to work at

Unfortunately there’s too much hype around about levels and targets. Mostly on websites that want to sell you their plugins.

Chris
