002 rack as stand-alone Preamp

Can you use the 002 rack as a standalone preamp like the 002? If so, then can you still monitor the signal through the headphone output when in standalone?

I am trying to put together a small home studio as well as live rig on a budget, and am hoping to use the 002r as a preamp to my rack effects on stage, as well as an audio interface at home. Would this work ok?

no the 002r like the 001 can only be used with a cpu attacked, at least I never came across anything else.

only the 002 can be used as standalone mixer. the $1000 difference MUST hide somewhere.

Yes you can ( sort of)

If you plug someting in to the alt-src Input, this can be monitored without opening protools. Simply select the alt-src to Mon button on the front. I do this with my keyboard so I can practice with the computer off. When I want to record this signal, I simply select alt-src to 7-8 and then use Input 7-8 in PT.
