Jorge,
Thanks for listening. Both of those started in Acid and grew. The new one is written by Bill and then I attempted to add some melody and do a bit of synth programming, neither of which I'm qualified to do!

Again, thanks!
Mark

Do note that they are not in English also, and the last piece is an instrumental.

Jorge,

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. Mark got some nice string sounds for this one, and his guitar playing really added to the vibe I think.

I listened to New Dragon´s Inn Rap, I dunno maybe I was too stoned but I could only laugh, it sounds like a funny movie to me. If that´s what you intended then you accomplished it!!
Technically I think the levels might be a bit hot?

Mike, Asylum´s music is cool and heavy, on kill the martyr IMHO vocals just a little loud, drums need work, inconsistent snare, clear kick though....
ripping at the seams has a cool bass sound, better overall drum sound than above, maybe it´s because the tune is slower tempo and the drummer plays more consistent?
Stab Stab, kik kinda muddy...
In general Mike I think you´ve done a great job with the vocals.

Tommydee, listened to it´s awright. Cool sounds, dig the snare, steel drums (sample?)
Let´s all get wild sounds fun.

Kamurah, you´re very welcome and cheers to you!

Hmm, yap, it was meant for the opening song for a local Mandarin sitcom, but in the end, I used it for the end of the programme, and the "full song" was used for the opening instead. I'm not sure, I think I set my MAXIM plugs too much?? That's why it sounds too hot. I thought most commercial CDs are very hot also, but they don't sound distorted, but I find mine distorted a lot.

Thanks for listening. If you have the time, do check out the last piece, its' an instrumental, so its a bit lighter and easy listening.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Charles, distortion BAAAD. If you hear distortion back off the threshhold on Maxim....taming the signal before getting to your limiter helps. Try the C4, EQ and compression.
Timeless dreams is a nice piece but again, too loud or too limited maybe?. Remember the style and sound you´re going for, in your case, it doesn´t need to be as loud as Pantera!

Let it breathe man!

Not in keeping with the title of this thread, or the intent, I'm going to post this anyway because it's interesting. This is one of several songs I did a few years ago with a songwriting partner who I still work with. We did this under contract with Wake Productions for Atlantic Records.

It's called Saints and Sinners. I wrote and arranged the song. It was produced by me and my partner Francis. It was recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, NY. Francis is the lead vocalist. The late Doug Stegmeyer, former bass player for Billy Joel is on bass. Spyros Poulos (Cathy Trocolli, Taylor Dayne, Madonna) is on keyboards. The drummer is a great session musician and friend of ours named Frank Bellucci.

We didn't get the album contract, but we had fun.

Soundsurfr,

Thanks so much for the nice words...

I am listening to Saints and Sinners while writing this....

Love it.

Sounds like great production work. Everything is smooth and well balanced. All parts sonically "fit" in their proper place.
Vocalist is very talented...is that you?

Was it recorded analog or digital?

Kinda sounds like some of the older Toto stuff. Don't take that as an insult...I love the old Toto, and think that they are great songwriters.

Anyway, keep up the great work, and thanks again for listening to my stuff.

Cheers

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks Kamurah -

Answers to your questions: Saints and Sinners was recorded on 48 track analog (Two Studer 24-track machines synched together) through an SSL board. We used all 48 tracks. (Sixteen tracks for drums, several pairs of vocal doubles, stereo piano mikes, etc.) It was mixed simultaneously to analog two-track and to DAT through a pair of Pultec compressors. The version you got was the direct-to-DAT (processed into MP3, of course).

Hi all,
finally I learned some more about webbuilding & ~hosting, think the site's grown to some more mature proportions last weeks. I uploaded it with some more tunes that I made last year, I have to honestly admit that they were not done with PTLE & 001, but with Cubase and a Gina soundcard. Only few of the songs I consider to be really finished, still I'd be pleased with any comments, especially on Goldfish, Little Brother and Space Ride. My 2 cents .....
Best regards,

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Dr.John,
Hey, great work! Like soundsrfr, I really liked the guitar work in 'Ordinary Girl'. The sound is good, and makes the song sound more substantial. One thing I wasn't sure about was the reverb on the snare was heavy at the start of the song and gone at the end. I presume you did this on purpose.

'Here Without You' is a great little up-beat pop song. As played here, it's more guitar oriented, but I could really hear someone like Billy Joel doing a song like this where it bacame a bit more piano oriented.

'Stay With Me' - good again. Listening now and enjoying it. I like the sound of the snare in the bridge, going in to the chorus. Nice up-front sort of mix. You used a neat little synth sound right after the chorus. It sort of added an African feel (my interpretation) to the tune for a second. I liked it, but then it was gone. I'd love to hear a mix where you drove that sort of thing through more of tune. This is right in the area of some of Phil Collin's stuff.

Good tunes all!

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,
Mark

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thank you Mark for your detailed review...yes the snare reverb was only for the verses...can't do that for the whole song...I wanted some atmosphere..I guess I got it.

The synthy-thing after the chorus of stay with me was an old drum machine run through an eventide h3000....

Do you have some stuff to listen to?

Thanks again!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Dr John,

I think Stay with me has the best sonics (?)
I liked the synthy thing lol, i have done similar things with the mooger fooger ring modulator.....

The snare ´verb on ordinary girl is cool in the beginning, but to my taste it switches to too dry, just an opinion..

In general I thought the mixes were very well balanced.

great work

thank you

Well, here's my latest - a version of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here.

Check it out here: http://murphonics.com/pages/mp3

I started it a little while ago while my wife was out of the country, as a gift to her, and to help cure my loneliness and boredom! I'm without a studio at the moment, so this was recorded in the living room of my apartment. Fortunately I'm about to move, and will have a new studio built soon! When I do, I'd like to add live drums, and get someone to play guitar during the solo sections, but for the most part it's done.

I sang and played all the instruments, except for the excellent piano part, provided by Murph (he was also kind enough to post this track on his site). I used an AT4033, going through an ART Tube MP for the acoustic guitars and vocals. I went direct into the 001 (stock preamps) with my trusty Fender P Bass. Since I'm currently an apartment dweller, live drums were out of the question, so I used a virtual drum machine with samples from my own kit. I tried to stay as true to the original song as possible, while still retaining artistic license here and there. It was a lot of fun, especially being able to do "cyber tracking" with Muprh!

Enjoy!

BRB- thats nice, man! This is actually from about 6 years ago, but i'm feelin the Pink Floyd vibe. My band did an "electric" cover of Floyd's "Pigs on The Wing 1 & 2". it was a bonus track on our cd and there is about 30 sec of "an old record" scratching at the start. listen to "POTW". somehow i posted it on mp3.com.

soundsurfr,

Finally, I got a chance to sit back and listen. Killer as usual... I know 'Saints and Sinners' has the power hitters on it, but man, I love 'Forward and Back' the most personally. What are you tuned down to, a Db? Just the pureness of it, I guess that's what I needed right now. Great stuff, my friend...

Dr. John,

I have to commend you too. There are some really excellent, inventive things happening in your productions. Good show! Sheesh, I'm startin to sound English...

Robb,
I have to buy your CD 'cause I can only download stuff from MP3.com (but I'll be glad to buy it, if it's as good as what I've heard).

"woke up once at Dragon's Inn", hmm, I don't understand. You mean, the music on radio was so loud that it woke you up

Yupz, it was played over the radio (initially, the station play it like 5 to 6 times a day) to introduce the sitcom.

Are you in Singapore also? Else how did you get to hear the song? Internet radio?

Also, do you guys find this piece over "compressed / limited" also??

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

two rooms,

Nope, not in Singapore. Nope, didn't really hear it on the radio. Was a joke. You say it was used in a "Mandarin sitcom"? Well, here that means Situation-Comedy, and the music themes for them are meant to have a humorous tone. Thus, I didn't think it was in poor taste.

Didn't know it was meant as a serious piece. Please forgive me... as I said, interesting productions. 'Timeless Dreams' is very pretty.
