Hi, all...

Anyone know the scoop on when the Big Sur update might be coming out?

My new iMac turned out to be a lemon (serious OS issue) but Apple tech support tells me Big Sur should fix it. Unfortunately my current version of PT (2020.11.0) is not compatible with Big Sur and I need it for my only source of income.

How long does Avid usually take to catch up to Apple's OS? It seems Big Sur has been out for a while, now.

Nobody knows until release notes say so. But my educated guess would be next release supports at least Intel-based Big Sur. With luck also Apple Silicone, but would not be surprised if that is postponed to second 2021 release.

Also since Avid started to use year.month version numbering, PT releases have never been more than 4mth apart, so if there is no 2021.3 there most likely will be 2021.4

Apple SI support is probably months away or at least until a pro level machine comes out. Catalina took 9 months. the other issue is the plugins - Intel from G5 took about 2 years for the dust to settle

While M1 support may be months away, Big Sur support is here now with Protools 2021.3 and 2021.3.1.
