Pro Tools Compatibility nvidia rtx 2060
Hi, hope someone can help.
I'm buying a new PC and wondered if the nvidia rtx 2060 graphics card is compatible with Pro Tools. I'm on a subscription and have version 2021.12.01 but will download latest on new PC. I'm getting either a good i7 or i9 processor. I've tried support but it'sq in queue. Thanks for any help. |
Re: Pro Tools Compatibility nvidia rtx 2060
In my experience, Protools will work with just about every graphics card. It just might not take advantage of the resolution or acceleration of those cards. I was able to run Protools on an Nvidia RTX 2080 and an older Nvidia GTX 1080, so I would think the RTX 2060 should be no problem. I've run Protools on an Intel i7 (9th Gen), and i9 (10 Gen) processor with Windows 10 & 11. I hope that helps.

Yes, my business partner uses that exact card.

Yes. Have a friend running that card for his Pro Tools (with a WUHD 5K2K monitor and a 4K TV.) Works well.

Re: Pro Tools Compatibility nvidia rtx 2060
My only recommendation would be to stick with Nvidia-based cards. I used to really like MATROX cards, and they served me well for many years. But. The new Pro Tools video engine wouldn’t work with it. Then, a forced Win 10 update rendered it totally useless. Seems they update their drivers maybe every 20 years or so. Now running an Nvidia Quadro M2000, driving 3 monitors. Works splendidly.

I'm running a (relatively low-end) NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 to drive 3 monitors. Works!

Re: Pro Tools Compatibility nvidia rtx 2060
I build DAW PCs for a few friends and the Nvidia card should be no issue, my last PC I built for myself I put an AMD RX580 in with an i9 9900K and had no issues with it. When I built that PC I had read somewhere that AMD was better for a DAW, can’t remember where. The biggest problem these days is BitCoin miners are buying high end video cards for extra processing power thus driving prices up in the process. Intel has actually added more “Oomph” to the video side of their processors in the last few years so buying a high-end video card might not even be needed, might be wise to put the PC together and see if that video card is truly worth the extra money.
YMMV! |
