Perpetual to subscription crossgrade
 

I hope this is the right place to ask this, but I've sent an email to Avid sales and don't really expect an answer, so.. My perpetual license expires in Nov. of 21 and Sweetwater has a deal right now for a perpetual to subscription crossgrade for $198 for two years. My question is, if I buy the crossgrade and upgrade to subscription will I lose the remainder of my perpetual license for the rest of the year until Nov. of 21 or will the subscription start at the end of my license expiration? Thanks in advance!

Q: If I purchase a Pro Tools Crossgrade, what will happen to my license?
A: You will receive a subscription license (Pro Tools Subscription or Pro Tools Ultimate Subscription Bundle) that will give you access to the latest Pro Tools version available. This will require you to surrender a perpetual license.

Note: Once you surrendered your Perpetual License it will convert your license into a subscription. Once it's done it will be irreversible.

If I understand that correctly, then you surrender your perpetual license at the moment you crossgrade to a subscription license. AVID will let you have only one license.

Not sure why you’d want to surrender your perpetual license. Worst case scenario, you don’t renew your “support plan,” and still own whatever your last incarnation of Pro Tools is. And don’t have to pay for it every year. Just one guy’s humble opinion.

Why would you give up your license to go to a subscription model is beyond me??? Just get a 1 year Renewal Support Plan for the next year and keep your license forever.

Personally I would never, ever surrender my perpetual license for a temporary subscription.

Even if you let the support plan lapse you would always have an active license.

I would hold on for a moment and thing about this move. Surrender a perpetual license means once you stop paying you no longer run pro tools while the perpetual will run.

Don't take decisions so fast, it's not good.
