Pro tools 7.1 help please activation
 

I just bought pro tools 7.1 hd software new in box from perfect audio on ebay. it didnt come with ilok. so i have to use challenge question. when i connect to avid website the page is missing. so how do i activate. i have an ilok, is there someting im missing? dont want to upgrade cause of my computer im using.THANKS

You should ask the seller how you are supposed to do this. They sold it to you. The HD software licenses technically cannot be sold separately from the hardware, although lots of folks have done this, but now this is something that Avid seems to be clamping down on.

looks like they moved the link to the challenge question. when i do the internet activation. it goes to the avid page but says couldnt find response. i use an apogee 16x with hd card also.

What has the seller told you when you asked them how you use what they sold?

What exactly came with your purchase? Paper registration cards -- what is on it (dont' give actual numbers here)? The seller said that software/card was previously unused?

Did you buy a core card with this? Technically the license is tied to the core card. You may of course be SOL. And if the corresponding core card and software was already activated you very likely will be SOL.

And specifically I think most 7.1 HD core systems came with a pre-activated iLok dongle. The licenses is on that dongle. You physically need that dongle with its license asset or the seller needs to transfer the iLok license to your iLok.com account (which does not require any interaction with Avid's web site). And Avid seems to be clamping down on Pace/iLok.com allowing even the later, at least for more recent versions of Pro Tools HD--they get transferred on an iLok in practice and in principle when you sell somebody the corresponding HD core/HDN/HDX card and do a transfer of ownership paperwork with Avid.

So again, your first and last, place to contact for help on this is the person/company who sold it to you. And worse case some illegitimate sellers may tell you they sold you exactly what they advertised, a box containing Pro Tools HD 7.1 software, ...with no claim to have an iLok/license included and therefore no way to run the software (unless you already own a license on an iLok). Caveat Emptor.

no it was sealed box. unused. but no ilok inside or reg card. bought from here.

so what is the basic way you activate pro tools, I heard pro tools doesnt use challenge question, only ilok, was that true with 7.1? so if a ilok didnt come in box, how do i put one on my ilok? driving me crazy
