Pro Tools 2020.5/2020.3 Compatibility with Catalina 10.15.4?
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a new Macbook Pro 16-inch because my old one stopped working and it came with Catalina 10.15.4. At the moment, Pro Tools says it's not compatible with this version of OS but is anyone currently running their Pro Tools on this OS successfully? I need to purchase a reinstatement plan for my Pro Tools because my old one expired with my perpetual license but I don't want to right now unless Pro Tools actually works. Thanks in advance |
Re: Pro Tools 2020.5/2020.3 Compatibility with Catalina 10.15.4?
Hi
I'm having a major issue with CPU spike when using Pro Tools (2020.5, but also when i attempted .3 and 2019.12) on my new MBP 16". Currently trying to get to the bottom of it, (have posted a thread awaiting moderation). The issue renders it completely useless for me, tho am unsure if anyone else has experienced this |

I’ve got .6 beta 1 available but I’m holding off for a while. Bad news is they won’t support you if you do have issues. |

2020.5 and OS 10.15.5 is working for me but I ask very little of it. Had heavy fan activity on my MBPro when first using 2020.5 so I checked Activity Monitor and found Avid's Video Engine eating up my processor. Don't need that so I disabled it (Setup >> Playback Engine) and now all seems happy.

I recently upgraded to Catalina 10.15.6. Call me a risk taker! I have a subscription version of PT 2020.5. No DSP/CPU problems seem to be apparent but I receive a message on boot up of PT that some video protocols are not compatible esp. Quicktime. As I am not doing any post production work atm. I am content to wait till Avid performs their predictable catch-up trick. "Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat" routine. As for the rest, Pro Tools is working very consistently.
