Runs HEAT with PT 2021.7. Native perpetual license?
Hi there,
I have a couple of questions about Avid HEAT plugin. 1) I have the 2021.7 version of Pro Tools Native Perpetual License. Will HEAT work with it? Unfortunately Avid refuses to give me a demo version - I get a message that I am not authorized. I am therefore insecure. It's currently on sale and I wonder if it will work? 2) If it should work, is the plugin comparable to the Phoenix II plugin from Cranesong? Or is Phoenix II even better? 3) What would be a real alternative (software) to HEAT? Thanks and Greetings |
Re: Runs HEAT with PT 2021.7. Native perpetual license?
Yes it will run on Protools native, starting a couple of versions ago. If you were on a subscription, you would get it included.
Check the buy and sell forum here. it often turns up for sale as a second hand plugin. |

Thank you JCBigler for the quick answer!
Can you or someone else say something about points 2 and 3? Thanks! |
Re: Runs HEAT with PT 2021.7. Native perpetual license?
HEAT is integrated into PT mixer, it is much easier to use than those other instantiate-on-every-track-plugins. There is very few things you need to know about HEAT, and they are:
It is good for what it is, and very easy to use. However, if you wish different settings for different tracks, that is not going to happen. |
Re: Runs HEAT with PT 2021.7. Native perpetual license?
Thank you very much JFreak for the explanations and tips!
I have read that HEAT should be unique and there should be no alternative to it. Can you / can anyone confirm this? What is special about the plugin that maybe other plugins can't do? Unfortunately I have no way to download a demo version :( I get a message that I am not entitled to do so. Does anyone know why this might be the case? Best regards. |

HEAT is already installed with PT standard/ultimate, it ony needs a license to activate.

Re: Runs HEAT with PT 2021.7. Native perpetual license?
This is the downside of Heat. It only works on audio tracks.
There is a workaround: You can rouet an Instrument track to a an audio track and acitivate imput monitoring. Not very comfortable. Heat is easy to use you have two knobs, drive for tape or tube and tune to control the brightness. So you can achieve very fast an "analog" sound. Phoenix II,Ra,Peacock or Ployteq Aroma have more possibilities to control the sound. In phoenix, you have more settings for tape for example. Aroma has different saturation algos like the Cranesong HEDD, which can be combined to achieve the perfect saturation, you want. Heat is easy to use and has the typical cranesong quality, but its limited in controls and it works only on audio tracks, so no Instrument, Aux or Master Tracks... For info, how Heat works, read the Heat options guide... http://akmedia.digidesign.com/suppor..._v10_67826.pdf |

This is because of the implementation of HEAT. It works on the audio data that is coming in, not on "stream" of the track output. It also means it eats very little CPU compared to the other plugins you need to instantiate on every track. |
Re: Runs HEAT with PT 2021.7. Native perpetual license?
Thank you, I understood that and that helps me a lot.
Today I will check whether I have the option to activate HEAT in my PT version. |
Re: Runs HEAT with PT 2021.7. Native perpetual license?
And go listen on youtube as there are as usual loads of videos, some shiiiit and some quite useful.
And compare the price to Dave Hill and the rest that is a QUALITY Plugin then HEAT is a VERY good priced fun plugin. If you need HEAT on a non audio track you can just bounce it down and vóila! |
