Hey Luzer,

Digging Cardiff Giant. I think there are some really cool riffs and playing throughout the song.

a few things i might play around with a little:
In my opinion there seems to be a little bit too much reverb on the snare.
it may be the download quality of the song but the kick sounds a tiny bit muddy. a mid roll off right around 160-240 hz could help that i think.

cool song man, keep up the good work!

thanks man.

i deff. agree with you on the kick. and it's a good thing u didnt hear the reverb of the snare
on an old mix =). i think its cuz i used the RVerb medium room.

now i'm starting to get into plate reverbs for drums but i still gotta mess around with them more
a little bit..

also I have a hard time mixing my own bands songs. i can't seem to ever have them come out
exactly how i want them

Reposting this..... I hate getting burried at the bottom of a page ...............

OK, here's our test track with the new TLM-103.

It's only a rough take of a new song idea so don't judge the performace too closely.

Acoustic guitar and vocal, both through the same signal chain, which is.....
TLM-103 - Buzz Audio SSA1.1 - Mindprint Envoice (compression stage) - Mindprint DI-Port (A/D) - 001 via S/Pdif

There's some chorus on the guitar and verb on the vocal.... and a C4 and L2 on the mix. But no eq at all in PTLE.... it's totally flat. (except for a 50Hz HPF enabled on the preamp while tracking the guitar only.)

File Here

Oh, and a note to Roy.... don't bother downloading.... it's the same as you already have.

luzer,

nice work. I like the sound of the drums, to me the snare sits pretty well, the reverb thing doesn't really jump out at me, it's just the combination of the verb and the dark sound of the snare. I like the part aroun 1:25 where the drums are by themselves, they have a lo-fi quality I like.

What are you using for mics/pres? good songs, nice performance and production

Aussie, nice sound on the guitars. Good production overall.

How did you record the guitar? Is that natural reverb on everything?

Good live recording.

Thank you for the kind words.

I had a single Studio Projects C4 on the guitar, but to tell you the truth, the sound of that guitar is that guitar. It is a Goodall, http://www.goodallguitars.com/ and has just a wonderful tone.

I applied only a slight bit of reverb, hardly any because the room, an ice cream shop with a stage, had a bit. In fact, there was a challenge to avoid too much of a natural boomy sound. There was also a pa system set up which did not help any, I did not tie into that, because it was buzzing like bees. I went direct with my own mics.

Here are a few more selections from that night.

Hey all...I haven't posted in a long while, but I've got a new mix to throw into the ring...it can be found here:

If This is Goodbye

I'm still not really happy with the lead guitar tracks, but I'll be working on it next week...

Check it out and post any comments/suggestions...

Matt,

I just downloaded your song. Neat stuff. I have a few suggestions for your next mix:

1. I like to hear more kick drum. Maybe sharpen it up a bit. Sounds a little muddy to me.
2. When your vocals first come in, I think they are a bit buried behind the Gats. When you get to the 1:32 mark your vocals are very nicely placed with reference to the music level. I tend to like vocals that are not real buried.
3. 2:13 mark – try bring out the lead Gat riff a little more in the mix to the level at the 2:26 mark.

I liked it!!!

Any more?
