All instrumental rock. Each song is very different from the rest. I am influenced by everything Rock and much more. Lemme know what you think.

Nice work, I like it, keep working on that music, you have some great ideas going on there.
I like the guitar tones, even though is not the style I usually listen to, and I wish I could program drum tracks like that. What do you use to track those guitar parts? ...and as for vocals, we are in the same boat, I'd like to have someone to work on that, I can't sing or have much inspiration to write lyrics either, for me it's all about putting ideas together and having fun with my music at home.
Here's some tracks I've been working on, then again, just instrumentals, and my computer is so a pile of garbage, that I can't even run some D-verbs at a time, hardly Strike, and not even in and Instrument track, I just have to bus it to an audio track and have barely any editing at all, otherwise I get the "hardware buffer" warning in the middle of the session...some day I'll have a Mac.

Hi all,

Roughly a month ago, The Darcys and I hooked up once again to record a new single, their cover of Final Fantasy's The CN Tower Belongs to the Dead. The track was recorded, produced, edited and mixed by yours truly, right here in my home studio. The track will be offered as a FREE DOWNLOAD for a limited time of TWO WEEKS only. Please follow the links and download the track. Feel free to give feedback on the song and on my recording/production.

Please go to www.thedarcys.ca and download the track for free from JUICEBOXdotcom.

Here is my first attempt at writing, playing all the parts and mixing and mastering a recordng.
Now I hasten to add two things

1. I am still very much an amatur when it comes to using Pro Tools and also at song writing, even though I have played guitar for many years.

2. I am not a vocalist. To many joints when younger and in a band and also too many cigarettes over many years.

I am a child of the sixties and I guess my music is influenced by the sixties. the lyrics were inspired by a story a good friend in the States told me after she had heard the organ part.

http://www.celticshadow.co.uk/record...g_protools.htm

But anyway see what you professionals think and please be kind but honest.

Would love to get some input on my mixes.

Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/therealjjboogie

The only one that I did not mix was the song called Story of Us.

The songs from Nanyana are my first mixes and learned a lot already from that. I wish I could go back and rerecord that whole session.....but the Arrested Development stuff turned out pretty decent.

Thanks for your input!

I have been experimenting for years with different types of music and it all got just a little bit too wierd. I toned it back a little and here is my first complete tune on PT. Vocals, guitar, and bass is all me and the drums are computer generated (as if you can't tell). Critique and questions are welcome. Check it out.

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

First one on PT 8 -- which ironically, I'm using almost exactly the same as I did PT. 7.1 cs3. This is a rough mix of a song called Worst Kept Secret of the Year http://www.songramp.com/mod/mps/view...?trackid=71373 . Equal emphasis on "rough" and "worst."

I'm looking for a big lead guitar on the outro bit. If anyone's interested, drop me a line. If not, I wouldn't blame you.

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

JJ,
I like your mix -- very pro on the Story of Us. Lot of familiar voices on that one -- Speech being the most high profile. Good stuff. I don't hear anything that I would change mix or level wise. But I'm but a novice in the mixing arena and you wouldn't be served very well by taking any advice from me in the first place.

Great vibe and obviously first class musicianship. This to me represents the classic set-up that trips up my limited mixing (eq'ing) abilities. How to carve out a space for so many varied instruments and voices. I have a hard time avoiding middy mud with just drums gits and bass.

Like the groove. FWIW.

New stuff posted! Lots of a cappella so take a listen you'll like it!

For those who don't know a cappella music is just voices.. so you'll hear some good effects!

The rest of the album is here:

That was done by a professional mixer... not me.

Mike sounds nice! You recorded the trax, and who mixed them?

Parson,

Just a personal preference, maybe less verb on the vocals track. I'd bring that snare hit up in the chorus also.

It sounds like your compressing the individual tracks correct?

What's your setup?

parson 04-13-2009 10:57 AM

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

thanks for the input, yea im using compression on the individual vocal tracks, and the master fader. i m using a mbox2 pro (pt8) on a mac. i know i have a long way too go but its a start. i usually tend to over due it with verb and eq because my voice isnt exactly american idol material. thanks again for your input

Sure, Drums sound nice...samples? What mic is that on the acoustic guitar?

parson 04-13-2009 05:17 PM

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

its a steel acoustic guitar so thats why it sounds wierd, but i like that crunchy sound that it produces (sometimes ill add amplitube also). the mike i used was an audio technica AT4033/CL Cardioid Condenser Microphone, i dont know anything about those mics, its a friends. i programed the drums on midi using xpand 2 which came with pro tools 8 (i love it). i am relatively new to the world of midi, but i am really exited about the potential of working with it. if you have a link i would like to hear some of your stuff.

Hey guys,

I play guitar in a band called "We Saw It Too"

You can hear our songs here:

Crazy, Confidence & Stay are the new songs, all the other songs are quite a few years old.

I'm just in the process of building a Quadzilla machine, so hopefully there will be more to come in the next couple of months as we have another 3 new songs to record.

These are all songs I've recorded with my very talented friend who has an amazing voice and range. I recorded everything with PT LE 7.3. The mics that were used were a Shure KSM32 & a KSM44. I mostly used Waves plugins from the Mercury Bundle. I put the music together using a Yamaha MO6 and Fruity Loops.

I just finished a small project for a local cover band.

Java Junkees on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos

The toms on all 4 songs are SSD.On "Just What I Needed" and "Rain On The Scarecrow"
I also used SSD kick & snare.

Oh, the guitars are all Waves GTR and Digi's Eleven.

It was all pretty much recorded in a couple of takes then overdubs for a couple of guitar leads and vocals.

Thanks,
Len

Sorry, I haven't been here in a couple of days. I think to be legal you would have to get permission. I know of a couple of local bands that have cover tunes on their myspace or website. Personally, as long as they're not trying to sell it, I don't see it any different than clicking on someones personal myspace and they have a song by a big artist playing.

Hello, welcome to the forum, I just had a listen to your stuff.

It's not at all bad for your first work, Ive recorded a lot of bands with a similar sound to this (I had to record a band that sounded much like that for one of my college projects actually!)

Modern Rock, Metal and Pop (and to be honest most modern music) all heavily rely on compression and I think that's what this track could do with a lot more of.

I record a lot of rock and punk type music myself and what I do is create a bus with an insanely heavy compressor on it, then send pretty much every to it, really hammer the dynamics out of everything, then blend it in with your original tracks (some of which you may want to compress too)

Try experimenting with layering compressed and uncompressed tracks.

The latest stuff I recorded you can hear on my myspace link below.

The top 3 songs were recorded live and have a much rawer sound, the tracks below that were multi tracked and so sound much more produced and "commercial".

I actually have a new mix of the top 3 songs that sounds much better, but I needed to get a version up a few weeks ago as we needed to update the myspace for a promoter.

You can get an idea of the kind of sound that i'm talking about though.

Hope that helps, and good luck with future work!

C.

Are you laying down any of the tracks or just doing the engineering?

Well done.
