Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hi Jackson,
I've been meaning to listen, and just got the chance. 'Red Light Parade' itself is just kindof OK to me. Sounds like you didn't have a whole lot to work with, but from a production standpoint, I think YOU did a good job. Now, 'Best Laid Plans', I really like. Chord changes(cool), overall mix, and as always, your great voice (and Drumming). And don't get me wrong on 'Parade', it's fine, but just not as exceptional as some of your best stuff. (I expect exceptional from you ). And as always, good engineering job, too. All this IMHO, Roy |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Jackson,
I just reread my own post to you. "Just kindof OK to me" sounds far worse than what I meant to communicate to you. After having just listened to 'Best Laid Plans', I just felt 'Parade' wasn't quite on the same level overall, that's all. Probably my favorite of yours to date is still 'Wrecking Ball', and that helped set the high Jackson standard I go by ("rusty justice"...hehehe). So, just wanted to clarify that... ~Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy -
Thanks for your response(s). I didn't think you were being harsh at all. Just to clarify - I had no part in the writing of the Robert McCord songs, and even though I'm playing on them as a session musician, I have no emotional attachment to them. Also, these tracks (and the eight right behind them) are far from over. Thanks also for your kind words (once again) about my songs, specifically Wrecking Ball. All that being said, I think your initial instinct on them was right on. There's not a lot of "magic" in these songs. I'm really having to work hard to "sell" the songs to the listener through the production, and that's always a hard thing to do. I'll keep you posted on the progress, and when I've got some complete songs I'll post them for your review. Thanks again! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
"Let Me In" is my most recent addition. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
OK...
I've posted the first two completed songs from my sessions with The Robert McCord band (8 more to go), along with FULL versions of some of my other work (older stuff, most of you have heard). Please give "Best Laid Plans" and "Perfect Mistake" a spin and let me know what you think. http://www.trixiestudios.homestead.com/mp3.html Just to recap - I engineered the sessions and played drums and sang lead. All songs (music, lyrics and melodoes) written by Robert McCord. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
hopefully i set this up properly. guitars were tracked in cakewalk last summer. i tracked the vocals and mixed in pt.

the vocals were cut in 001 except last song. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Jackson/BRB,
Good job on the finals, IMHO. Again, I really do like 'Best Laid Plans', especially the vocal on the middle part (But if I could feel...), so that's probably you. Also, that's a poppin'-ass snare sound you're gettin' on the verses. I'll bet your client's lovin the job you've done for him...Good work! Jerome, Man, I LOVE 'Let Me In'. I kept waitin for that killer, sweet groove to let up (such a pessimist), but it never does. I'm not at my descriptive best tonight, so I'll just put it all this way. I love the lyrics. I love the piano(great job), and I love your voice, which thank the Lord, is imperfect in a great way. That about covers my humble opinion. Keep creatin, man.... you're very gifted. Chucknkd, Well, I saw your other post, but finally just got a chance to listen. Man, I LOVE the guitar that's 'panned too far left'. The sound of that thing kills, and the player chugs the whole song along. Also, the female 'demo singer from Nashville' blows so many famous singers out of the water, it ain't funny.(Usually I would list a few examples here, but you can imagine who I mean). But, anyway, great songs. You can be proud of this work. Thanks to each one of you, ~Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Once again, thanks Roy! You are too kind.
Thanks for listening, more to come soon! |

Robb(8mmOD),
Great song! You ain't gettin soft on us, are you, man? No, I love the chords and the vocals.(and the lyrics)... The acoustic guitars sound great together. Sounds like a one-take, live in the studio thing that you guys nailed. Is that right, except for the new vocals and remix? Who wrote and sang it, and do ya'll do it live? I would think it would go over killer. This is almost the opposite feel from your other stuff, which is cool sometimes. Good stuff, man... ~Roy |

~Roy<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> thanks roy, thats pretty much true. one take on all guitars, vocals were added over a year later. it is not my band, its the same band that i posted before called Native Tongue. i wanted to break in my new vocal mic so we added the vocals to the old music tracks. its an adk a51-s through the digi pres. i am going to re-do the lead vocal and use my focusrite voice master to see the difference. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I just posted a clip of a song we've been working on with Second Skin where the same thing happened. The instruments were recorded a while back at a big studio, and we wanted to break in our new AT-3035. So we had him do some "scratch" vocal takes (most of the male vocals were done in that session) that ended up sounding perfect. I'm very pleased with the sound on this mix, and as soon as a few of the automations are touched up and we post the whole song, we and the band would love some feedback.

Hey Roy - thanks for the comments. Much apprectiated. By the way, love the slide playing in "Sleepy Moon". It almost brings me back to Chuck Berry's "Deep Feeling". I love it!

Is that a talk box you're using on Springtime Girls? Very cool! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Jerome,
Thanks VERY much! Jackson, That sound is from my RP2000 guitar effects processor (Digitech). It's a preset but I tweak this and that on it, and it's got a touch of 'flange' that makes it a little similar to a talk box. A friend sent me a web page of new programs to try with it, which I did today. It's pretty cool for this and that. Thanks, Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
This is one I did entirely in Reason, whereas I would previously import all the tracks into PT for additional guitars and such, I purposely kept it all in one program and will let it simmer for a while. I think I may add/delete a few things in a while and use some Waves plugs for a sharper edge...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy
I, too, have been wondering about how you did that effect on Springtime Girls. For the first week, or so, I was so hopelessly distracted trying to figure it out that I was missing the musicality of the piece. Then it hit me, Duh! He's a guitar player, I'm listening to a guitar!... and it started making sense from there. Now that I'm past that, the piece now "enjoys" a spot on my VERY short favorites list. Thanks for sharing,... and for tweeking my curiosity. What a blast! -PITT |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
deep pit,
thanks for the kind words. she is definately an amazing singer. as soon as i have finished versions of "little things" and "thinkin" ill put them up. thanks again, chucknkd |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
deep pitt,
Very kind of you. I really do appreciate it. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
pk,
'Telegraphic Memory' is an excercise in taste and restraint. Very nice... They should hire you to show what can be done with Reason (seriously). I don't know if I'de change anything. Sounds like mind candy to me... Good job. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Chucknkd
I just got a chance to listen to your stuff. I agree with Roy that the hard left guitar keeps the song chuggin' along. Just don't listen to it while driving, or you may drift into oncoming traffic The vocalist sets up a big mystery in my mind as to why some are famous and others are not. She sounds like she has all the "stage presence" of any other professional. But for sheer "ear candy" that makes me listen deeper and smile, my vote goes to "thinkin". That one, more than the others left me hurtin' for more when it faded. Good work! PITT |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
pk_hat -
What a great piece! I love moody pieces like that. It's going into my permanent collection. "Reason" users come up with some really cool stuff. It's clear that I need to put a few hundred together and get that program. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
thank you for the positive comments, very appreciated. Reason is a great tool, but if there's one thing I can suggest to future owners is to tweak it and put some of your own personality into it, otherwise it ends up 'sounding like Reason' - a term which was loosely mentioned a while back and I didn't make much of it, but sadly this is true,
Reason does have "a sound of it's own" and once you've played with it enough, your ears start detecting certain loops and sounds when played elsewhere (tv, Cds, etc.) In order to avoid that, you must tweak knobs, double up on your synths, and try to avoid loading the presets (as they are) too often. Thanks again for the kind words y'all... pk |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
here's a little ditty I whipped up last night http://www.jefftrout.com/jeff_trout-...ot_a_camel.mp3
still have some mistakes and things that need to change, but I still like it. recording info: mex strat -> zoom multi fx pedal -> marshall (insert model number here) amp -> sm57 -> 001 korg n5-> 001 kubicki exFactor -> crate bx2115 -> 001 alesis sr16 -> 001 simple enough. Not too many plugins. mostly just eq and comp. |

I am finally getting the rough mixes done for my SCARDANELLI - BED OF NAILS album which should be released late September.
the first cut is Arabica, and can be found here: Scardanelli at MP3.com I'd be very happy to hear your comments and criticisms! Simon |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Well, it is death metal
personally I enjoy it now and then but often it comes off as silly. as for hte sound it seemed ok, but I am not much of a perfect ear. I just know a good tune. heh. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanx for listening anyway!

Another very nice piece of music. Great feeling to it. Neat rhythms. I listened to your whole library again. Good stuff. Mark Quote:

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Simon,
I hope you'll take this as a complement. It might sound a bit strange at first. This tune really makes me want to go back and watch an old, spaghetti western, like "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". I listen and can just see that grizzled Clint Eastwood character scowling at me. That picture just won't go away. What I think is cool is that I can't really find anything in the tune itself that specifically takes me there, but it does. I liked this tune. Cool structure. Don't know what the album is going to be like, but I'll be back to listen to more when you're ready. Mark Quote:

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks for that Mark, I do take it as a compliment. I happen to love spaghetti westerns, and Morriconi's scores are extremely wonderful!
I don't know when you visited but I've put a second track up there, "Mutual Silence" Simon |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
hey!!
here's my stuff....I'd love to have some feedback so let me know what you think!! I'm also looking for a singer to collaborate with so if you know any suitable ones let me know thanks Milco http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/357/milco.html |

Cool. I'm working on a piece now, trying to do some horns. Loved the trumpet. Mark Quote:

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
thank you for the nice comment, Mark.
It's sad that I can't even stream music on this louzy modem, I want to listen to Simon's track but I can't! Morricone has a major influence on me, so I'd love to hear how others have been infected by his music. pk |
