First of all… I feel terrible for not keeping up with you guys. But I got too busy lately.

While ago I asked Roy to collaborate with a song, and he did a GREAT Job. Also I made available for anybody to collaborate with vocals. James ( DUCier), took his time and wrote lyrics and recorded the vocals. He sent me and I never had the time to MIX.
Finally, today I did a mix, and I would like to thank JAMES and ROY very much for collaborating with this song.
Here is the Vocal version of Anger Management .

Thanks a lot James… You did an awesome job IMO.

Enjoy.

Doh! Stupid me. I checked out the other songs you have up there. ' Old Ladies in Mercedes ' creased me up too. Just how I feel about the old biddies too. In fact I'm going to burn it to CD so I can keep it handy to play when the frustration gets too much. The Beatlish break in the middle is really cool too. The whole track is very tight in both performance and production. Great work. And it nmakes me laugh.

Seriously though, have you thought of selling these to some kind of Spitting Image/Not the Nine O'Clock News/Monty Python type programme? (Showing my age here...) I wonder if they still make programmes like that. They would be just the thing for them.

And thanks for the kind words on my songs. Much appreciated.

And. as an aside, why the [bleep] can't we [bleep]ing use [bleep]y words like [bleep] or [bleep] or [bleep] on this [bleep]y board? What are we, [bleep]ing children???

SSRJazz,

Thanks for listening and commenting, I will take your advice on the lead guitar track, I assume its the lead......there are 3 guitars on this track. I wish more people would have commented since this is my first big mix session and me not being as experienced as you guys. I hope others will comment to make this the best it can be. I plan on putting this on my web site that is in the works, for my little humble home studio.

If anyone else has the time to Listen please do. Song "I love this Bar" dave cornell cover band recording.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Eddie,

Regarding "I Love This Bar":

Nice job. Things are clean and easily distinguishable...a sign of good mic technique from the onset.

I think the toms and kick may be a bit hot...as well as the bass. It isn't bass heavy in the classic sense though, you've done a good job of keeping the low end of the guitars from bunching up on the bass and kick. It's country: i.e. lyrics are number one on the priority list, so bump 'em up a notch. There are a couple tom hits near the beginning that seem to jump out at me and boom a bit: a little eq and perhaps gating (to shape the transient response more than anything) combined with the small level differences mentioned earlier would fix that right up.

One small personal preference...try a coincident stereo micing on the acoustic...I'm not big on the DI sound, and a good natural stereo image or two would really help to flesh out the stereo image without clouding anything.

Really though, well done! Keep in mind that all these suggestions should be done in a subtle fashion...don't go overboard with any of it. This is really good for a first time go at mixing an entire band!

Thanks Chris,

You couldnt have broken it done better, and built confidence at the same time. I really appreciate your input. I will go back thru it and do a little better job of critical listening to the areas you pointed and make adjustments to the mix. As far as micing goes still have alot to learn just not enough bands to record at the moment to try different techniques.

Thanks again

Eddie

Hey All:

Thought I'd give this a try!

This is a song by a local singer/songwriter. Sort of folky-bluegrass feel. There are a number of musicians playing on this...all tracked here in my studio and in a friends studio in Iowa.

All comments and suggestions would be much appreciated!

You will find the song "Gilda" under the Soundhole Studio Folder.

Hope you Enjoy....Scott

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Well I have very cool news for everyone who is interested. Check this out...its a message from Tom Gesimondo from the Howard Stern Show. He is the co-author of the restless, restless lyrics and a judge in the contest....

For what it's worth, I was talking to Vinnie today and I think your song is either a top 3 or right at the cusp. I don't remember if we spoke, but I liked that you kept the anger in it. I think the country verision is great. The Goulet version is great too. Is it parody? Well I know people will make fun of it and there is no market for that music, but it is well done. The third member of my top 3 is up in the air. There is your song, a version by Erik Garner and one by Bump that are right up there. Keep fighting the fight, lets see where this goes.

My version was played on the show yesterday... so we will see what happens. Wish us luck! It was completely recorded on Protools!

Here's one I recorded with a friend of mine (David Lucas) on vocals. It's not completed as we have to tune vocals and add real drums.

Thanks a lot rchaffin,

I used a clean channel out of a Mesa Boogie Passing by a Sansamp PSA-1 Plugin, and a compressor.
The guitars are tuned in G# and I used bass strings for the lowest strings. Guitars used: BC Rich and ESP, both with SD pickups.

Peace out

Question.

I've been trying to work on the links. If I want to just put the name of the site or the name of the song to click on. How do I do that? Do I do it using the signature? I tried messing with UBB codes but I'm not sure what to do. The posts seem a lot better if you can just put the name of the site and song- like Roy does.

Thanks very much.

Mike

Eddie D,
I think you did a good job on the mix of 'I Love This Bar'...I do agree with Chris Cavell's suggestions(great engineer in my book), mainly bumping the lead vocal up a tad for lyric clarity. I really like Dave Cornell's vocal, assuming he's the singer...he's got a great voice for country...laid back, unique, distinguishable.....good job overall, IMO.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey Everyone,

I have just wrapped up mixing a song I am recording gratis for a local band.

They are very good! This is my edited version. I played "producer" a bit and chopped the beginning and end of this song. IMHO the song was too long for the sake of being long. Especially so after mixing it for a few days. It had a Really long intro and a redundant chorus (from a feel perspective), who knows what they will use.

So far they are very happy with the quality of the song, so I will be recording them some more coming up. The singer has some pitch problems, and needs a bit of work, but this take is after 2 sessions with the singer. I was trying to get him to hear stuff, but you cant correct what someone wan't hear. This band is pretty young. Drummer is 16, guitar/bassist (in studio he plays bass) is 17 and the Singer is 20.

Anyhow, this was recorded at my basement studio 5198 Studios . We did a live take to get the drums, then re tracked everything else.

The guitar, left channel is sm57 on a small marshall amp, and the right channel is the same gtr take simul di'd through an ART tube mp -> NI guitarRig.

Bass is through my SWR super redhead, XLR direct out to the digimax LT into PTLE.

Drums are d6 kick, sm57 snare, apex 435 overheads, and Audio Technica tom mics.

Singer is apex 435.

Mixed in the box, and run through a quick mastering in the box.

All are through the Digimax LT.

Here it is, from Final Attempt.... RipTide - Radio Edit Version

Tell me what you think.

If anyone wants the full version (for comparision on edits, it is on my web page at http://www.justindaniels.org/index.p...=Final_Attempt

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Update:

**THANK THE RECORDING GODS**

The singer called me yesterday and asked If he could re-track vocals. I said YES. Didn't think he performed very well, and he can do better, etc. Since I am not charging them, what's another 3 hours of studio time. I am having a lot of fun BTW, so I am not worried about that.

Drummer thinks he is not loud enough. He plays a lot of double bass, so may eq'ing a bit more attack on the kick would give him the effect of being louder.

What do you all think??

BigbubbaJ:

Thanks for the listen.

A buddy of mine with and LE set up in Iowa mixed and mastered it. He also played the bass and did the background vocals. I think he used the Waves Gold bundle with the mastering plugins.

The guitars, banjo, snare and lead vox were recorded at my place in Chicago. I then e-mailed him the files to be mixed and mastered there...he does a great job.

Thanks again...Scott

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks. I spent a lot of time on miking the drums. They pretty mich mix themselves... I might re-eq the kick to get more attack...since the drummer wants them "louder" which means he is probably just deaf from playing with no earplugs. LOL.
