Dust in my mixer...
 

I worry about it.

Got a couple of mixers that have plenty of 1/4" jack sockets, many of which must be slowly accumulating dust when unused.

Is there any way of preventing this? Like leaving unwired jacks plugged in? Or does anyone make 'blanks' just for this?

How about a buying a big box of those soft foam earplugs they use in industrial workplaces? Or just lay a strip of a low adhesive tape like painters masking tape across them.

:D:D:D I would not be overly concerned about dust on quarter inch connectors as the act pf patching and un-patching the plugs will tend to clean the contacts. I would be more concerned about slot connections like PCMCIA cards and such that have many small pins(like the memory car slots in some keyboards and effect units). Someone should invent(or did I just do that) a cheap rubber device that fits into those slots to seal them. +1 for the CAIG products.

I wouldn't say it's not a concern at all. You just have to go by the harshness of the environment. Something worth mentioning is equipment in club scenarios. Dust is not the worry so much as smoke, because it's not readily apparent just how much is building up on your connections over time. That can really mess with your jacks and pots and faders as well. And smoke buildup doesn't self-clean near as easy as dust does.
