Level calibration

I want to calibrate my Digi001 to use external hardware. As PT is not giving me any number on the recording level, at what level do you record and calibrate all your IO?

Do you record 24bit sessions at -14dbfs or -18dbfs?
For calibration, I saw that I can use signal generator audiosuite. What signal do I choose (ie, sinewave, pink noise, ???)

Thanks.

Re: Level calibration

The 001 is configured for -18dBfs = 0 VU. To do this, use a 1 kHz sine wave set at -18dB fs inside of Pro tools feeding the output in question directly (no panners or pan law can affect the level). Feed that output into the outbaord gear and adjust it's input level to read 0 VU on it's input meters (assuming you have VU meters...it can be different depending upon the style of metering used).
